GERALD Hodgson credits the EU with creating peace in Europe. That is one
way of looking at things, but there is an alternative point of view; that
Germany has realised that its German Empire might more readily be achieved by
peaceful means.
In 1870 the newly-united German States attacked and defeated France and
announced the German Empire of Europe from the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles.
That did not last and this led to both WW1 and WW2.
On each occasion, Germany was seeking control of the whole of Europe. Now
that Germany has got its European Empire it no longer needs to go to war; not
until its expands into the Urals (its stated intention) which will lead to war
with Russia.
