Lib Dems/Greens - The Ultimate Anti- Democrats.

Caroline Lucas today joins Jo Swinson in saying she would not accept the result of a Second Referendum. The Green MP confirmed that she would vote down any Brexit deal in Parliament.
“If there were to be a referendum and Leave were to win it again, either more decisively or not, in the Commons would you then back a Brexit deal to leave?”
“Um, no I probably wouldn’t.”
She then went on to claim that “a majority probably would.” Guido doesn’t believe her.

'Church of The Apostles.'

Church of the Apostles is FOUND: Israel dig uncovers ruins of sprawling religious complex

Archaeologists in Israel's Galilee have discovered the remains of an ancient structure now said to be the Church of the Apostles - a long-debated biblical site built atop the homes of the apostles Peter and Andrew. While mentions of the church can be found in Christian text dating as far back as the year 725 AD, there has been no confirmation of its existence, leading some to doubt that it was ever real. Now, a team from Kinneret College in Israel and Nyack College's Center for the Study of Ancient Judaism and Christian Origins has found what could be the first physical evidence at the site of el-Araj, in Beit Habek near the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee. Digby Jones Explains How Brexit SHOULD Have Been Handled.

He said: “What should have happened is, the Government and business, when Article 50’s notice was signed on March 29, 2017, they should have said, ‘we are preparing for a no deal Brexit’.
“‘We don’t want one, in fact, we think one would be damaging. It will also damage Europe, but we are going to prepare for it.
“‘Now, if you would like to suggest, Europe, how we can get together to make sure it doesn’t happen, we are listening’.
“If that had happened, which would in a classic negotiation, then we would not be in this position.” Express.

Key To Brexit Impasse?

Liam Halligan in the ST did suggest there could be a “key” to Britain’s Brexit impasse, by leaving the EU on October 31 but staying temporarily in the European Economic Area (EEA) - the Norway way.
He said this option could be viable if the withdrawal agreement is rejected and a no deal Brexit is blocked.
If the UK were to leave in this way, he said it would mean: “Britain takes back immediate control of agriculture and fishing, but tariff-free trade continues.
“We could negotiate non-EU trade deals and huge annual payments to Brussels.
“Freedom of movement remains but, crucially, the UK can leave the EEA when it wants, by giving 12 months’ notice, in stark contrast to the withdrawal agreement.
“The idea of using the EEA to smooth our EU departure, ahead of cutting a free-trade agreement – an approached dubbed ‘Norway then Canada’ – is often dismissed by Brexiteers who think it’s a trap.
“Would they trust Johnson to use EEA only as a staging post? If so, it may end up being Britain’s key to Brexit.” Mail.

Atheist parents take primary school to court as they say assembly prayers  breach children’s human rights

29 JULY 2019 • Telegraph.
Atheist parents are taking their children's primary school to the High Court, claiming that biblical re-enactments and praying in assembly are a breach of their human rights.
Lee Harris and his wife Lizanne have won permission to bring a judicial review against Oxford Diocesan Schools Trust (ODST) after arguing that Burford Primary School is acting “unlawfully”.
They allege that since ODST took over the running of the community school in 2015, they noticed “harmful aspects of evangelism spreading into assembly” and other parts of their pupils' education.
In the first case of its kind, the parents are arguing that this interferes with their children's right to receive an education “free from religious interference”.
ODST is a multi-academy trust that runs 33 schools, all of which are Church of England bar four, including  Burford Primary, which are designated as non-religious “community schools”.
The trust says on its website that it “operates within the family of the Diocese of Oxford” adding: “We are motivated by our Christian values to serve our local communities, but we do not impose those values”.
Humanists UK, which is supporting Mr and Mrs Harris, believe this will be a test case to challenge schools which hold a daily act of Christian worship without providing a suitable alternative for non-Christians.
All church and community schools are required, by law, to provide a “daily act of collective worship”. Burford Primary holds a daily assembly for children which features “exclusively Christian prayer”, Mr and Mrs Harris say.
They add that once a week there is a longer assembly which involves an external Christian group “dressing as biblical characters” and acting out Christian stories including the crucifixion.
Parents are arguing that this interferes with their children's right to receive an education “free from religious interference”
Parents are arguing that this interferes with their children's right to receive an education “free from religious interference”

When they asked to withdraw their children, aged eight and ten, from the longer assembly, they were “left to play with an iPad” while a teaching assistant watched over them, according to the parents.
By failing to provide an alternative that is of “equal educational worth”, the school has breached it public sector equality duty to have “due regard” to people’s beliefs and has also breached the children’s human right by denying them education.
The school also holds various functions in a Church, including a harvest event and the Year Six leavers event, where every pupil is given a bible.
Mr and Mrs Harris say that they do not want their children to attend these events, which leaves them “deprived of the benefit of what should be important elements of school and community life”. This amounts to another breach of equalities laws since their children are effectively being discriminated against, they argue.
In a joint statement, they say the parents say are bringing the case “reluctantly”, but added that they “feel strongly that we need to try to make our children’s education as inclusive as possible”.
Andrew Copson, chief executive of Humanists UK, said: "We are the only sovereign state in the world to require schools to hold daily Christian worship, yet 80 per cent of our young people and 75 per cent of people of parental age are not Christians.”
He added that requiring children to participate in religious worship and then “marginalising them if in good conscience they cannot”, ignores their right to freedom of religion or belief
Anne Davey, chief executive of ODST, said it is “not appropriate” to comment on legal proceedings while the case is ongoing.
“ODST is confident that Burford Primary School has acted entirely appropriately, and has followed statute in ways that are similar to all local or indeed national schools,” she said.
“It has provided exactly what the law requires, which includes provision for children to be withdrawn if parents so request.”
Burford Primaryh was judged to be “Good” in its most recent Ofsted report. Inspectors  said that pupils “speak with confidence about different faiths and cultures”, and added that pupils “have a keen sense of equalities and their work demonstrates a deep understanding of British Values”. DT.

Boko Haram militants killed at least 65 people at a funeral
in northeastern Nigeria, local officials said Sunday, revising
the earlier death toll of 23.
"It is 65 people dead and 10 injured," said Muhammed
Bulama, the local government chairman. Bulama said he
thought the attack was in revenge for the killing of 11
Boko Haram fighters by the villagers two weeks ago.
Nigerians last week marked the 10-year anniversary of
the rise of the Boko Haram insurgency, which has killed
more than 30,000 people, displaced millions and created
one of the world's largest humanitarian crises. The extremists
are known for mass abductions of schoolgirls and putting
young women and men into suicide vests for attacks on
markets, mosques and other high-traffic areas.
The insurgent group, which promotes an extreme form
of Islamist fundamentalism and opposes Western-style
education, has defied the claims of President Muhammadu
Buhari's administration that the insurgency has been
crushed. The violence also has spilled into neighbouring
 Chad, Niger and Cameroon.

The Single Thing That you HAVE To Know About God The Father.

World War One 'Avoidable'? - Not So.

It is astonishing to me that some historians can put their politics ahead of reality when looking at the outbreak of The Great War.
You only have to look at the Agadir (Panther gunboat) Incident of 1911 to understand Germany's intentions. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agadir_Crisis)
Indeed, it was this matter which brought to a halt Winston Churchill's brief, radical flirtation with pacifism as both friend and colleague of Lloyd George.
Suddenly, the penny had dropped and Winston became alert to Kaiser Wilhelm's warmongering intentions as his armies grew at the same time as he was constructing the largest navy in the world. Even Lloyd George seemed to be waking up to reality as seen in his Mansion House speech.
Germany's Fleet Law of 1900 had already given adequate warnings of Kaiser Nutjob's intentions - it had literally spelled them out.
It was blindingly obvious that Britain was a target.

From as early as 1905, the British Government had had a pretty good idea what the Schlieffen Plan actually meant.

War was inevitable in almost the same way it had been one World War later.
Furthermore, we were obligated by treaty to support Belgium once she was invaded.
The Liberal Party had sat on its hands and blinkered its eyes. Our failure to match Germany in military and naval strength from 1905 onwards was as much to blame for the dreadful slaughter from 1914 to 1918 as any other single factor. If you do not stand up to bullies ...

When the government had wanted to spend money on eight new dreadnoughts - Churchill had opposed this as 'money wasted'.
Thanks be to God that his blinkers eventually disappeared.

As a skate’s heel sweeps smooth on a bow-bend: the hurl and gliding
Rebuffed the big wind. My heart in hiding
Stirred for a bird,—the achieve of; the mastery of the thing!
Brute beauty and valour and act, oh, air, pride, plume, here
Buckle! AND the fire that breaks from thee then, a billion        10
Times told lovelier, more dangerous, O my chevalier!
No wonder of it: shéer plód makes plough down sillion

All this after THREE YEARS of malicious delaying tactics - and for most - contradicting the manifesto on which they stood for election to Westminster!

The CofE and Cultural Marxism: Vital Lessons The REAL Church Must Learn.

Andrea Williams explains how Church of England teaching was used as evidence against a Christian in court.
I have been in court with Dr David Mackereth this week. Dr Mackereth, now famously, said that he would not call a six-foot-tall bearded man ‘madam’, and for this he was promptly dismissed by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).

Must use chosen pronoun

The DWP position is that Dr Mackereth should refer to patients by their chosen pronoun. Dr MacKereth says that this would go against his conscience since as a committed Christian he is committed to telling the truth. He has explained: “I believe gender is defined by biology and genetics. And that as a Christian the Bible teaches us that God made humans male or female.”
It is very disturbing to see a Doctor with 26 years of experience in A & E medicine being forced to choose between telling the truth and his profession. In dismissing Dr Mackereth, the DWP has managed to violate freedom of conscience, freedom of speech, and freedom of religion in one go. We rely on doctors telling the truth. Imagine if they were forced to accept a patient’s chosen diagnosis!

Evidence from the Church of England

What really upset me though, as a member of the Church of England’s General Synod, was that the people who sacked Dr Mackereth for his Christian beliefs relied on the Church of England’s position to justify their actions. I have spent a lot of time trying to tell Christians, of all denominations, that our public witness to the Truth – all aspects of it – is vital.  When we are on TV, radio, or even in court we are often told that our brand of Christianity is not what lots of other Christians think. But, this week, for the first time, what the Church of England says was used as evidence against a Christian in court. For me it was another stark reminder of the damage caused by the Church of England’s abandonment of truth.
The evidence deployed against Dr Mackereth included reference to the House of BishopsGuidance for welcoming transgender people, and the Pastoral Guidance for use in conjunction with the Affirmation of Baptismal Faith in the context of gender transition. I criticised these moves towards acceptance of transgenderism at the time, and Carys Moseley explained why the transgender issue is a first-order gospel issue.
What is important for Dr Mackereth’s case is that the Pastoral Guidance says that transgender people should be referred to using their chosen name and pronoun. The guidance is therefore that Christians should not tell the truth about the biological sex of a transgender person. I think that, at the very least, in a civilised and fair society all people should accept this is, at least, a freedom of conscience issue.

Cultural Marxism and the Church of England?

A member of the tribunal, asking for a clarification on the Christian view of gender, asked Dr Mackereth about the position of the Church of England as shown in the evidence presented. Dr Mackereth had to explain that he does not agree with the position of the Church of England and that he is not a member of it. He said that the position of the Church of England was evidence that cultural Marxism had entered the Church. He said that the nature of man, as described in Genesis 1, was foundational to the gospel; fundamental to his Christian belief and as fundamental to him as the air that he breathed. He argued that the majority of the faithful in the Church of England would agree with him, over against the Bishops.
If he had been a member of the Church of England this would have seriously weakened his position. The muddled position of the established Church on this issue fundamentally weakens the witness of Christians who want to speak and witness to the foundations of Christian truth. And yet we do not despair. Though no bishops will speak, though the established Church flounders in this, as on many other orthodox matters of faith, Dr David Mackereth does speak. A brave man, unprepared for the media onslaught, untrained both for appearances in the media or the English courts, he stands for Christ exemplifying I Cor 1:27:
“Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful”(NLT). Christian Concern.

Naziism and Communism - Which Was The More Devastating?

Comparison of Communism and Nazism[edit]

Courtois considers Communism and Nazism to be distinct, but comparable totalitarian systems. He says that Communist regimes have killed "approximately 100 million people in contrast to the approximately 25 million victims of the Nazis".Courtois claims that Nazi Germany's methods of mass extermination were adopted from Soviet methods. As an example, he cites the Nazi SS official Rudolf Höss who organized the infamous extermination campAuschwitz concentration camp. According to HössWiki.
Blogger: Courtois was perhaps kind to Marxism: a prior assessment by 'Le Figaro' came up with a figure in excess of 180 million dead at their hands.
I may suggest that Courtois' numbers were more likely absolute figures and Le Figaro was the same plus understandable extrapolations.
It is difficult to believe that the overall figure of Courtois does not need to be increased by a minimum of 50%.

Assisted Dying.

Peter Hyde, Driffield. Yorks Post.
READING Ruby Kitchen’s article about assisted dying (The Yorkshire Post, July 20), I have to agree with the law being changed. Karl Sheridan should never have had to watch his wife Ann dying such a terrible death, especially when the suffering was so unnecessary.
reader Karl Sheridan has spoken movingly about the case for assisted dying following the death of his wife Ann.

Reader Karl Sheridan has spoken movingly about the case for assisted dying following the death of his wife Ann.

If we can put animals to sleep to end their suffering, then why do we have to treat human with less compassion than we would an animal?
I can see the danger of allowing assisted suicide when a relative has become a burden and is persuaded by family to ask the doctor to end it all, but surely doctors should be able to weed those cases out?
Reader Karl Sheridan holds a photo of his late wife Ann.

Reader Karl Sheridan holds a photo of his late wife Ann.

It isn’t everyone who can afford the £10,000 to travel abroad to do what any sane person would want to do instead of having to endure the agony of a painful death.
I am equally sure that there are compassionate doctors who break the current law and who is to deny that they have acted in the best interest of the patient?
Blogger: Regular readers will be aware how much I have struggled over this issue during the history of this blog. My opinions on this matter can literally change from day to day - and from circumstance to circumstance.
Attempting to justify our current way of going about things by ranting that 'this is a sin' is scripturally difficult. Felo da se is certainly never regarded by coroners' courts as 'self murder'. The issue is never directly addressed in Scripture, as far as I can see.

What Can Boris Actually Achieve?

AS RUTHLESS JOHNSON SIGNALS “BREXIT DO OR DIE”, I’M STILL COUNTING MY SPOONS

The commentariat has been utterly convulsed by the composition of new prime minister Boris Johnson’s government.
As Remainer ministers and those disloyal to Johnson were either sacked or fell on their swords to be replaced by Brexiteers in every key position, Brexit supporters were as ecstatic as Remainers were choked with horror and rage.
Johnson’s purpose in effecting this ruthless transformation was clear: to send an unequivocal signal that the Remainers’ game is now up. Britain will be leaving the EU on October 31, “do or die”.
The purpose of this signal was threefold. First, to tell the public that they finally had a prime minister who believed in the democratic right of the people to have their decision respected by the government after the government itself had asked the people to make it.
Second, to make the EU understand that the British government really is prepared to leave with no deal. This aims to create such panic about the likely effects of no-deal upon member states that the EU may be driven to negotiate withdrawal terms in the UK’s interests. That’s why planning for no deal is being conspicuously ramped up, with the Cabinet Office having been made specifically responsible for no-deal preparation.
Third, to face down Remainer MPs intent upon thwarting no-deal. By boxing himself into Brexit on October 31 even with no deal, Johnson is leaving himself no room for manoeuvre. Since he rules out another referendum, he is effectively telling Remainer MPs that if they stop Brexit he will call a general election. He will doubtless be calculating that their terror at facing the electorate against a Johnson platform of defending democracy and the sovereignty of the people may well force them to abandon their anti-Brexit insurgency.
On this analysis, he has created nothing less than a war cabinet to defend democracy itself against the attack by MPs and civil servants who have shown they will stop at nothing, even ripping up Britain’s constitutional rules governing parliamentary procedure, to thwart the will of the people to leave the EU.
And yet. The signalling is clear enough. But I’m still counting my spoons.
As I wrote here, the danger is that Johnson will try to present some kind of EU compromise as Brexit, even though such a deal may once again leave the UK at the mercy of the EU.
But this time there will be no organised Conservative party Brexiteer “European Research Group” outside government to hold its feet to the fire. Putting so many Brexiteers into government means he has neutralised the ERG as a potential Brexiteer insurgency. This means he would be more able to force them to accept the “painful compromises” that he would present as “inescapable”.
Some of his appointments themselves carry a whiff of that dangerous ambiguity. The ERG’s ostensible leader, Jacob Rees-Mogg, who has now been appointed Leader of the Commons, actually voted for Mrs May’s treacherous deal on its third appearance.
By cruel contrast the principled and courageous Steve Baker, who unlike a number of his fellow ERG members refused to vote for Mrs May’s deal in its third incarnation but instead led 28 “Spartans” through the “no” lobby once again, has been left out of government altogether.
Meanwhile Michael Gove who, despite being the original parliamentary Brexit leader alongside Boris Johnson was not only Mrs May’s most pivotal Cabinet member to support her deal but also resisted a no-deal Brexit to the hilt, has actually been put in charge of no-deal preparations in the Cabinet Office. Fox and hen-house, anyone?
Johnson says he will pursue a renegotiation with the EU and expects it to be successful. You could say he’s merely being pragmatic by keeping his options open: simultaneously seeking a renegotiated deal and preparing to leave with no deal.
But since (barring a total capitulation to panic) the EU is unlikely to offer any variation that is in the UK’s interests and which would therefore be by definition against the EU’s own, any renegotiated “compromise” will be bad for the UK.
So the fact that Johnson is even prepared to contemplate this means that he cannot be relied upon for the clean Brexit he has implied he can be trusted to deliver.
It seems that Brexiteers must therefore sweat on the EU remaining bone-headedly intransigent. But what if they are not? What if they become smart and manipulative?
As ever, we are left guessing about what Johnson’s actual bottom-line position is. The one real cause for optimism among Brexiteers, however, is his most significant appointment of all: Dominic Cummings as his principal adviser.
Cummings was the strategic brain behind Vote Leave. He is the ultimate true believer for whom enabling the UK to leave the EU drives all else before it. His appointment will be the one that most alarms the senior civil servants, the Sir Humphreys whose serpentine skills until this moment have been deployed to deliver Brexit in name only while keeping the UK tied to the EU in perpetuity.
Now Cummings, has been brought in to stop them. The Times reports:
“Last month he wrote a 10,000-word blog post calling for a revolution in Whitehall and an end to the ‘Kafka-esque’ influence of senior mandarins on elected politicians. He called for the creation of “elite red teams” outside the control of the civil service, whose job would be to challenge official advice to ministers and pick apart policy proposals. He said that ministerial red boxes should be scrapped and existing Whitehall power structures dismantled, arguing that senior civil servants such as the late Cabinet Secretary Sir Jeremy Heywood did not have the skills to run a modern government.”
My guess is that, given the fragility of the government’s overall majority, Cummings will also be pressing for something I have been advocating repeatedly over the past few weeks: that the prime minister should declare at an early juncture that no acceptable renegotiated terms are possible, and so the UK will be leaving the EU with no deal on October 31; and then call a general election on a platform of the defence of democracy and the sovereignty of the people.
This titanic battle for Britain now moves into yet another phase. Melanie Phillips.
