'Pressure continues to grow on registered churches and house churches in Iran. The authorities have arrested up to ten house church Christians who have converted from Islam, and an Assemblies of God pastor.
Police raided the house church in the southern city of Shiraz on February 8. The same day, they arrested Pastor Maasis Mosesian, in Tehran. The pastor, who is Armenian, is married with two children.
The authorities have also forbidden two other churches in Tehran from holding Farsi language services on Friday, the main day for Christian worship.
The ruling means the authorities have now put a halt to every significant Farsi language service in the capital.' [Release International.]

EXTINCT TORTOISES ALIVE claim scientists on Galapagos Islands, according to reports in BBC News 9 January 2012 and ABC News in Science 10 Jan 2012. The different shaped shells of the giant tortoises on the various Galapagos Islands is considered to be one of the observations that inspired Darwin to develop his theory of evolution. According to the BBC, “The animals are thought to have colonised the archipelago through floating from the shores of South America. Colonies on each island remained relatively isolated from each other, and so evolved in subtly different directions.” A giant tortoise named Chelonoidis elephantopus is known to have lived on the island of Floreana in the Galapagos Islands when Charles Darwin visited the islands in 1835, but is believed to have died out soon after this. C. elephantopus had a distinctive saddleback shaped shell, while the tortoises on neighbouring islands had a dome shaped shell. Recently, scientists studying Galapagos tortoises around a site named Volcano Wolf on Isabella Island had noted what Gisella Caccone called a mystery: “you could find domed shells, you could find saddlebacks, and anything in between."

Now scientists conducting a new study of the DNA from a related species, C. becki, claim C. elephantopus could still be alive and breeding with other tortoises on Isabella Island. The researchers collected samples from 200 tortoises and found 84 of them had C. elephantopus DNA in their genomes. The scientists compared the DNA of living tortoises with museum specimens and claim "the newly sampled individuals can only be explained if one of their two parents were C. elephantopus." As 30 of the tortoises are less than15 years old, and the animals can live for over a century, the scientists suspect pure bred C. elephantopus parents could still be alive. Ryan Garrick, one the researchers commented: "If found, these purebred C. elephantopus individuals could constitute core founders of a captive breeding program directed towards resurrecting this species."

ED. COM. (John Mackay.) What a reminder that the definition of ‘species’ is really a human construct. The tortoises on Floreana Island did have a different shell shape, but it is proving to be simply a variation within kind, as evidenced by the finding of the varying shaped shells around Volcano Wolf. The theory that the tortoises arrived on the islands on floating rafts of vegetation is probably correct, but the original populations that colonised each island have not “evolved in subtly different directions”. Inbreeding within a limited gene pool has simply reinforced the characteristics that were already present in the original populations on each island. In Darwin’s day each group of island tortoises had little opportunity to breed with other tortoises as the Galapagos Islands were rarely visited by man, and tortoises (as opposed to turtles) do not cross seas easily. This meant that each subgroup had distinctive shell shapes and patterns, but were still of the same kind. This perpetuation of distinctive characteristics over generations happens in island populations of any animal where the gene pool in limited. Since then they have been carried all over the world on board ships, as well to other islands, and have happily interbred with others of their own kind, and no doubt improved the gene pool with some re-mixing.There is no need for a captive breeding programme as they are obviously breeding, and they don’t need resurrecting because they are not dead. They should be left in peace to do what comes naturally, not be kept in artificial captivity to prop up evolutionists’ stories. These are not the only creatures on the Galapagos Islands that are classified as different species but are really one kind. Recent research has confirmed the famous “Darwin’s finches” are really just variations within kind and provide no evidence for evolution. Were I on any council, I would stand at the beginning of each meeting and simply say five words very loudly, "May God bless today's proceedings" prior to taking my seat.

His speeches in Brussels which some of his political enemies term harangues, have highlighted the present economic plight of Greece. One wonders at the absence of our own MEPs who should have, in unison, supported Mr Farage.

I hope that your party achieves all its goals and leaves the EU. England is a great country in no need of mandarins of any kind dictating what, when and how it should carry out its affairs.

An international team of scientists has carried out a detailed study of an Archaeopteryx feather, and have found fossilised melanosomes, microscopic pigment-containing granules, in the feather. .... The research team examined an Archaeopteryx feather with an electron microscope and carefully measured the size and shape of the melanosomes. They then compared them with melanosomes in 87 species of living birds of various colours, and claimed they were 95 percent certain Archaeopteryx had black feathers. The scientists also used the microscope to study the fine structure of the feather and found the barbules and melanosomes within them were arranged in an identical fashion to living birds. Barbules are the tiny interlocking projections on the barbs of a feather that give it strength, especially during flight.

Hmm. No surprise seeing that archaeopteryx - the 'fossil half bird' is actually still alive today. The Central American Hoatsin is the spitting image of archaeopteryx. Fossilise one and guess what you'd get!

'Girls as young as 13 are being given contraceptive implants at school without their parents’ knowledge.
Nurses insert devices into their arms which temporarily prevent pregnancy by releasing hormones into the blood.
Last year 1,700 girls aged 13 and 14 were fitted with implants, while 800 had injections which have the same effect.

It is difficult for me to express the depths of my anger. This is wrong on so many levels from the downright practical to the moral - from the point of view of 'responsibility' from the pupils themselves to the excision of parents from the proceedings.

From a purely educational point of view it is sheer lunacy! You encourage behaviour which is ill advised, health-risking and psychologically dubious. You encourage the vulnerable to take wrong paths and you encourage the sordid belief that 'actions should not have consequences'. You encourage deceit and dissembling.

Surely, surely, surely by doing this you are making the authorities complicit in a series of illegal acts. Ethically, solutions from the gutter.

The bottom line is that they claim to believe in 'social responsibility' but in all that they do they undermine that concept.

THE recent comments of Archbishop Sentamu, who would exclude gay marriage from the Church (and fair cop, Your Grace, because nowhere in the Holy Bible is homosexuality mentioned other than as a mortal sin and an abomination such as to incur the dreaded wrath of God), are not so much wrong as awaiting further clarification.
For now that he has finally informed us that marriage is a Holy Sacrament instituted by and entirely within the remit of the Church for the sole purpose of sanctifying the union of couples of opposite gender, then surely by the same token, likewise neither should heterosexuals who have their relationships rubber-stamped by the State, have ever been allowed by the Church to be considered “married” couples, but rather parties to civil partnership along with their homosexual brethren.
On this basis, therefore, and conceding that the Archbishop is correct and has a point superbly validated by the Holy Bible, the Church would have done much better to exclude heterosexual civil partners from marital status, and clarified its position on the matter then, instead of waiting for homosexuals to claim such status in Church before starting to predicate about what the Holy Sacrament of marriage is supposed to be about.
Had it done so, homosexuals would now be receiving the equal treatment and respect that they deserve, and a hullabaloo that has nothing to do with the message of Christ whatsoever need never have arisen.
In other words, it is the Church that allowed this confusion to arise in the first place. Like they say: use it or lose it, and the same goes for the sanctity of holy matrimony.
The Church lost its monopoly on marriage long ago, and did so without batting an eye.

John Terry has been stripped of the England captaincy. He was never for me the right representative for our national team.

The comparisons however with Chris Huhne should be noted. He has been punished before being found guilty. He must be restored immediately if the case collapses.
Beyond this, I must state that I am extremely concerned by this prosecution which is based on the thinking that racism alone makes childish, objectionable behaviour worthy of a court appearance.
For this prosecution to be valid, all similar behaviour should have a similar outcome. Racism shows that you are a lowlife but can it logically be the only motivation which will be treated thus?

In his recent diatribe against Archbishop Sentamu desiring to uphold Christian values, Peter Tatchell has decided to step onto dangerous ground. In spite of prefacing his comments to make himself into 'an outsider looking in' - he still determines that he is entitled to comment on how Christian should think and act:

"I am no theologian or expert in ecclesiastical matters, but from my understanding of scripture it is not a loving Christian value to demand discrimination against other human beings. To insist that the law discriminate against gay couples and treat them as inferior, second class citizens strikes me as devoid of the love and compassion that is attributed to Jesus Christ in the gospels."

Naturally, he feels that 'a God's eye view of humanity' is not relevant to the argument which is his primary mistake.
Secondly, he makes the basic error which assumes that 'love outbids righteousness'. Clearly he has no concept of what 'sin' is and that forgiveness of it is not the easy option - it is entirely dependent on repentance.
Thirdly, when he goes on to talk about those christians who approve of homosexual 'marriage' - he fails to take into account that these are people on the road to perdition. They do not follow God's commands. They have attempted to downgrade God. They think that 'man knows better'. He speaks in effect, of liberal christians - better known as heretics.
Fourthly, he speaks of a discrimination which does not exist. Homosexuals are not persecuted under UK law. The demands he makes are just 'new kids on the block' and go against all historical definitions of matrimony.
Fifthly, his arguments are specious. Civil partnerships have been put into place because of pressures by people like him.
Next. God is not subject to democratic constraints.
He seems to be using a certain casuistry at one point when using the argument from the YouGov poll of 61% accepting civil partnerships' and confusing this with an acceptance of 'homosexual marriage'. The two are distinct.
Finally, he expects that a 'special interest group' should, as a principle, be granted any request on demand. He has resorted to 'special pleading' which is never logically strong.
I know full well that Peter Tatchell is a courageous, intelligent man and also one of principle but if he were to meet the Living Lord - his views could not survive. I shall pray for that to happen.
If I hadn't had a personal relationship with God - I might have found his arguments more persuasive.

The youngster is alleged to have to have squeezed the breasts and bottoms of two 12-year-old girls during a break.

Yesterday the six sex charges against the boy, from Honiton, Devon, were dismissed by a district judge - and the teenager admitted two new charges of harassment.'

Now in my day, this would have been dealt with 'in house'. A visit to the head teacher would have seen the perpetrators of such heinous behaviour receive 'six of the best'. Consider the advantages compared to the lengthy, tedious failing processes now in play:
1) There is a connection between the act and the punishment which inevitably drains away as such cases spend months going through assessments, psychologists, pre-court panels, lawyers - and occasionally to court where 'the punishment will be utterly inappropriate to the crime.'
2) There is a deterrent effect to all other pupils in the school and a level of fear instilled.
3) The 'wrongness' of the act is underscored - and a sense of justice prevails.
4) When the caned individual comes out and boasts to friends about 'how well they took it' - those friends in their hearts do not truly believe them.
5) In cases such as these, senior school staff simply leak information to pupils about the tears shed.
6) Now let us turn to the person punished. They too should feel that this is a better outcome. It is all finished with: done and dusted on the same day and a line can then be drawn under it.
7) The angry parents of the victims will generally feel that there has been an element of justice. They too can close the matter.
The 'good old days'? - Maybe. Certainly, the 'better old days'!

Which Warranty?

With a roughly one in ten chance of a large electrical purchases failing (according to Which Magazine) the purchase of extended warranties is surely ridiculous - especially when they are so prohibitively expensive.
Remember too that a three year extended warranty on an item - isn't! You have at least a year's warranty on the product in the first place, so what is customarily sold to you is in fact, only TWO years of 'extension'.
When my TV failed some years ago - it took 11 days to get it back from repair.
If your laptop fails - who knows when 'The Tech Guys' and such like will get it back to you!

Better never to take on such warranties unless 'free' or costing mere pennies. Better to put the savings with many goods into spares - or for 'white goods' find a good repairman in your locality who will almost always be much quicker to solve your problem.

We have a Hotpoint washer/dryer which had an included one year warranty + a further four years of 'parts guaranteed'. Impressive, huh?

Thought I'd check out the details and two years ago there was a standard labour charge of - wait for it - a £105 per callout! Not exactly impressive, is it?
