My anger is seldom greater than when I see situations like this one arise. Yesterday a 17 year old was NOT jailed by a bench of totally wet magistrates in Eastbourne.This animal led a group of 50 yobs on a drunken rampage through Eastbourne: abusing, threatening, pelting passers by with cans, causing terror, inflicting criminal damage. This near riot went on for several hours!
Not only have the magistrates already told him that he will not face custody but the law does not even allow for his name to be published!
I weep for our poor, sick society and wonder at times like this begin to wonder whether those who advocate birching might not have a valid point as a comfortable prison stay would have been insufficient in any case.
