Opponents had demanded that
the European Parliament’s internet channel be axed to save taxpayers £6.7million
a year.They pointed out that EuroparlTV – which screens live
debates and information – is hardly watched by the 9,000 parliamentary staff,
let alone the 500 million EU citizens the assembly is supposed to
represent.
But in a budget vote in the
European Parliament, which sits in Brussels and Strasbourg, MEPs voted for it to
continue. The decision was attacked last night – with those against saying the
channel was costing £14 a day for every
viewer.
