Education Secretary Michael Gove yesterday attacked the protesters against gay marriage who claim 40,000 teachers face the sack for defying the new law.Ahead of a Commons vote on Tuesday – which will almost certainly legalise same-sex weddings – Mr Gove guaranteed that teachers who continue to tell pupils that marriage should be between a man and a woman will not be fired or disciplined.
They have a duty to explain that gay marriage will be legal, but do not have to agree with it, he said.
