Treaty Of Utrecht.

In 1713, Spain ceded Gibraltar to Britain 'in perpetuity' in Article Ten of The Treaty Of Utrecht. This was later confirmed by the Treaties of both Paris And Seville.
The legal basis for Britain's ownership of the rock is beyond all question.
It has long been the policy of successive UK governments - and also UKIP - that, like the Falklanders, the Gibraltarians possess unassailable rights to self determination.
The response in past referenda of the locals has been an absolute rejection of Spanish claims with 98.48% in favour of remaining allied to the UK rather than Spain in 2002.
As one who is half Gibraltarian because my mother was born on The Rock, I must declare an interest.
