How The United States Came To Be.

A veritable plethora of different languages, peoples and origins - and yet the USA became a functional entity - even if it took a civil war and more than half a million dead as part of the process.  Native Americans apart - it was a nation without a History to act as a brake; it was fresh; it was new; it could go in any direction.  Europe is not like that at all. It has countless histories; national identities; tribal loyalties and established practice. What could be done federally with the US cannot work in the European Union.
