Only Stuart Broad failed to bowl well as the low cloud conditions meant that the ball swung prodigiously for the other three seamers.
The only problem was that England were 4 down at stumps as they too found the autumnal conditions difficult to manage - aided by several examples of valuable wickets being carelessly cast away.
In what is going to be a very low scoring game, England must establish some sort of lead today.
With six wickets in hand and a deficit of 77 - if England could make it to 190 or better, I believe they would have command of a match which, at this point, looks as though it could easily end in under three days.
How shameful it would be for England to lose a match in typical English conditions because a number of county batsmen are already seeming to find the step up to international level rather too difficult.
