Colonialism 'Force For Good'?

Professor’s work arguing for colonialism CENSORED as he claims empire was force for good

ACADEMICS have hit back after a professor’s work praising colonialism was censored following a furious backlash.

This is an argument which can be easily made. Colonies had a structure; an infrastructure was put in place; they were policed; they were shown proper court and political systems.
Principally though, tribalist butchery was ground down and Christianity was spread.
In spite of all the above, I do feel that every nation has to be permitted the absolute freedom to make its own mistakes. 
Nonetheless, I do wonder how many 'free nations' which are former colonies would have been better off in every way to have maintained their former condition. The majority, particularly amongst the poorer countries, is my guess.
