No Deal Trumps Bad Deal.

SIR – It is extraordinary that Hilary Benn, the chairman of the Brexit select committee, one described Theresa May’s assertion that no deal is better than a bad deal as “unsubstantiated”.
It does not need to be substantiated because it is self-evident. A deal under which Britain paid billions of pounds for 10 years but agreed to retain free movement in order to have access to the single market would clearly be worse than no deal. It would never be as bad as that – but a line needs to be drawn on what is acceptable to Britain.
All the while Remoaners suggest that obtaining a deal is so essential that it does not matter how bad it is. This will give EU negotiators the impression that a terrible set of conditions will be accepted.
