Government response for cyber crime "woefully inadequate"
UKIP MEP and Home Affairs spokesman, Jane Collins has said the
government's latest response to cyber crime is "woefully inadequate".
"Mr Hancock should be looking at the public sector when he
talks about the need for upgrading our response to cyber attacks.
"Unfortunately what we have it's a situation where basic
precautions such as upgrading software and not taken by public sector
staff.
"On top of this organisations like NHS trusts take a cheap and
inadequate option when they come to choose their antivirus
software.
"Given the huge amount of data held by government departments
and the infrastructure which is reliant on the 'Internet of Things' the
government needs to sort out its own backyard before it tells private companies
what to do.
"Coupled with the EU's critical infrastructure directive which
is a hacker's paradise I believe we have a situation in the UK where a state
like China (which has its own cyber offices) or a hacker in the bedroom in
America could take out our
systems."
