RIP Cally - The Demise Of That Art Form Known As Cricket Commentary.

Over a number of years, I have listened with joy to the Radio Leeds and Look North sports journalist, Dave Callaghan, commentating on Yorkshire's cricketing exploits.
In a year which has seen the retirement of 'Blowers' at TMS and now the sudden death of DC, Radio commentary on cricket has taken a body blow which can only be described as a double whammy.
There are no other great cricket commentators left on radio in the UK.
Having been appalled by the mediocre standards of commentary on BT televised cricket - I almost find myself hoping that the grossly over-priced Sky TV regains the rights to all international televised matches - so excellent is their commentary team.
Having followed that annoying dissonance created by antipodean TV commentators throughout the winter, all I can do is think back to - the late great Richie Benaud. Sigh!
None compare with England's greatest of 'em all, of course, the mighty John Arlott.
Allowing that Cally was not as great as this significant pair, he would certainly have been in line for third place amongst all radio commentators over the generations. Maybe Brian Johnstone could have pipped him but it would have been a close run thing!

The Beeb, however, cuts Nigeria adrift when it is Christians who are victims of extensive longterm genocide.            It MUST be DEFUNDED!
