According to tradition, the Apostle Paul was beheaded in Rome as a martyr for his faith. The exact details of his death are unknown, but it may have been part of a wave of Christian executions ordered by the Roman emperor Nero after the great fire of 64 CE.
While imprisoned in Rome, Paul wrote several of his epistles (letters). His last words are said to have been, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”.
