Hate Preachers.

Dear Editor,
Hate preachers spreading unacceptable messages within British prisons has been an issue for a long time – with many experts suggesting that some prisons have become recruitment grounds for terrorist organisations.
Whilst I was glad to hear that the government plans to open special units within prisons to separate hate preachers like Anjem Choudary (who may be held in Co. Durham) from the general population, I am also alarmed that this has not been done a long time ago.
This is only the first of many badly needed reforms.  I hope that the government will build upon this move and continue to support our Prison Service by providing the long overdue additional resources and staff that will be required to get the British justice system back on track. If not, we in UKIP will be there to hold them to task.
Regards,

Swiss To Reject Schengen?

The right-wing People’s Party (SVP) has unveiled new proposals to try and halt the free movement of people around the European Union.
Vice President Christoph Blocher made the shock statement after a parliamentary panel rejected the government’s threat to impose quotas on the number of foreigners entering the country next year.
Instead, they opted for a compromise based around hiring workers with a preference towards local people.
Mr Bolcher said: "If we see that the law to implement (a 2014 referendum to curb immigration) does not massively reduce immigration, the SVP will launch an initiative to end the free movement of people.” Express.

Bible Truth Underpinned.

Tel Gezer(PHOTO: SCREENGRAB/YOUTUBE/TIM BULKELEY)
The ruins of Tel Gezer, located in the modern state of Israel.
An ancient palatial building excavated in modern Israel that dates to around the time of King Solomon adds credence to the Old Testament account of the area.
Archaeologists at Tel Gezer found what Haaretz described as a "monumental building" dated to the 10th century BC, which included artifacts that added weight to what the Bible says about the region's history.
"According to the Old Testament, the city was also associated with the Philistines in David's time: the king broke their power 'from Geba to as far as Gezer' (2 Samuel 5:25; 1 Chronicles 14:16)," reported Haaretz.
"This excavation season has proved the Philistine link too, when the archaeologists revealed a layer with Philistine bichrome pottery. The archaeologists also found a tell-tale fragment of a so-called 'Ashdod figurine,' … Such figurines have been found associated with Philistine remains in other excavations, such as in Ashdod, Timna, Ekron and Ashkelon."
Haaretz also noted that the Gezer site "features a large central courtyard, like contemporary palace-like buildings found throughout the southern Levant, including at Hatzor and Megiddo."
Excavation was done in part by researchers from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, who has been sending archaeologists to the Gezer site for the past several summers.

Pounds Into Euros.

Today, the pound will buy you 1.1914 euros. Not all that far from the level when we first voted for Brexit!

Birdie.

I opened my curtains this morning, not to see this beautiful little feller, but a lovely robin dancing on my privet. Months since I last saw one so it gave me quite a boost!

French Numpty Minister Replaced.

Controversial economy minister Emmanuel Macron has quit the government in Paris following a series of incendiary remarks, including comparing post-Brexit UK to Guernsey and advocating moving the Calais migrant camp across the Channel.
It is thought he will put his hat in the ring to become the new President.
He will be replaced with the moderate Michel Sapin, who has offered an olive branch to Britain over freedom of movement and has warned other EU leaders against trying to punish the UK for Brexit.
The news will come as a huge boost to Theresa May as she prepares to meet her Cabinet at the government’s country residence, Chequers, to discuss her strategy in the EU exit negotiations. Express.

Italian Diets?

SIR – We are adjured to adopt the Mediterranean diet and eat as healthy Italians do. What is perplexing about this is that Italians, though they do indeed have the longest life expectancy in Europe, seldom embrace this diet themselves.
The Mediterranean diet, we are told, is rich in fruit, vegetables and fish, as well as nuts and pulses, wholemeal grains and olive oil. It also eschews meat and dairy.
Yet an Italian’s typical breakfast comprises sticky pastries laden with forbidden sugar. Pizza and pasta are national dishes, but neither is a healthy option; the latter is made from the same ingredients as white supermarket bread. Fish is not a prominent feature of Italian cuisine, and most of it is frozen or farmed. Meat consumption includes a wide range of processed meats, such as prosciutto and salami, that are high in salt and saturated fat. Dairy includes many deservedly celebrated cheeses.
That leaves olive oil and tomatoes, consumed by most Italians. The former is also a staple for much of the British middle class. So is it just the tomatoes, eaten in a far great volume there than here, which give Italians stronger hearts and a longer life?

EU - 'Not The Only Choice'.

Finance minister Pawel Szalamacha suggested the UK’s vote to leave the union could prompt others to quit the 28-nation bloc.
In an interview, he claimed the bloc was "not the only choice" and had been "demystified" following the vote on June 23 this year.
Mr Szalamacha says he believes Nordic countries in particular could be first to go, as they have a “strong sense of identity.” Express.

Another CofE Sellout?

The Most Rev Justin Welby said the “common good” of society was an important objective for church schools and, to that end, a relatively larger emphasis was now being placed on potential, standards and results.
Places for state church schools are in high demand because they generally have better academic records.
Traditionally, Church of England schools give first priority to pupils with churchgoing parents.

UK Olympic Success - EU Spin!

Our 1% of the world’s population achieved 9% of the world’s gold medals. Success was earned not just through the hard work of our athletes, but the ability to build a team around them. The European Parliament’s Twitter account, however, simply added up the individual medals for each of the EU’s 28 countries and made the fantastical claim that the European Union had the best results on earth. Yes, if you add up 28 countries’ results they beat any single country. Jonathan Arnott MEP.
