 The Prime Minister's Easter message in full:

Happy Easter to everyone who is celebrating today.

I know that for many people that means chocolate eggs and the Easter bunny and hot cross buns and all the rest of it and I will certainly be joining in.

But let’s not lose sight of the fact that this is Christianity’s most important festival.

And that, while churches are open, the ongoing Coronavirus restrictions mean that once again it won’t be possible for many Christians to mark Easter in the way that they would like.

But if there’s one thing British Christians have shown us this year it’s that Jesus Christ is “the way, and the truth, and the life” not just today but every day.

His teachings, and the message of his death and resurrection, permeate through every aspect of daily life.

That’s why I’ve lost count of the number of church leaders and congregations that have stepped up to support us all in these very challenging times.

Millions of Good Samaritans, each of them showing what loving thy neighbour as thyself really looks like in 21st century Britain.

And having done all that during the darkest days of the pandemic, churches across the UK are now helping us light the path out of it by opening their doors as vaccination centres.

It’s really, very moving to see it.

This has been a very tough 12 months.

But, as ever, the arrival of Easter brings with it new hope.

And, this year more than ever, it brings the promise of brighter days ahead for us all.

So stay safe, keep following the rules, and have a very happy Easter.

BRUSSELS, TODAY.

EU institutions, on Thursday (1 April), unveiled a first-ever and immediately controversial entry into the Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, in May.

The song, called 'The EU is Alive', is a pop-homage to a hit from the 1965 musical The Sound of Music.

It is being added to a line-up of 39 national semi-finalists for the first time in the event's 65-year history to boost European morale in the third wave of the pandemic.

"In a period of anxiety, for me, it is clear - the EU needs to show citizens we care about more than just vaccines, more than just getting by," European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement.

"We need to rock the European Union", she said.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), a Swiss-based association which organises the event, noted that its board had "carefully scrutinised the EU entry".

And "the new submission was found not to breach rules on the integrity and dignity of the contest," it said.

'Eurovision' also has other unorthodox entries from as far afield as Israel and Australia, under complex guidelines. EU Obs.

More Good News At Easter Time.

Britain is starting to thrive freed from EU shackles and Brussels is terrified JAYNE ADYE. Express.

THE past two weeks have continued to show the world the true colours of the European Union, with the continuation of threats over vaccine export bans by the EU Commission. However, this pales in comparison to the EU's desperation to try and blame others for their own failings. Italian police raided a vaccine storage facility which housed millions of vaccines last week, claiming they were stockpiling doses to be sent to the UK. The reality was different though, as what they found was vaccines labelled for EU Member States - and some were even destined for export to developing countries for free. None were destined for the UK. This level of delusion and willingness to try and embarrass pharmaceutical companies some of which have produced these vaccines on a non-profit-making basis - and to try and humiliate the UK has somehow got even worse.On Monday, a large shipment of meningitis vaccines - made by UK company GlaxoSmithKline and destined for the USA - was blocked for export by Italian customs officials - even more ridiculous, they have now demanded the vaccines are tested to make sure they are not secret COVID-19 vaccines!

These are countries we are supposed to be ‘friends and partners’ with (according to the Prime Minister), but evidently they did not read, or understand the memo.

Instead, what we are continuously seeing from the EU is a systematic attempt to try and undermine the UK at every opportunity.

This is not just limited to the rollout of the vaccine however, but encapsulates the EU’s every action towards the UK since we left the EU.

This is all rooted in the EU’s belief that above all else, they need to see a newly independent UK fail outside the European Union, even if this means going against basic common sense.

The UK is starting to succeed and thrive now we are free of the shackles of the EU, so the bureaucrats in Brussels are rightly terrified more countries will want to leave.

Who could blame them when you see the mess they seem to be making of everything! However, some good news, Priti Patel has finally announced the UK’s new Asylum and Refugee Policy to accompany the new Australia-style Immigration Points System.

The new proposals are welcome reading for anyone wanting this country to finally ‘Take Back Control’ of our borders, and include measures such as ending the ability of lawyers to make last-minute appeals to deport criminals, as well as rejecting asylum claims if someone enters the UK illegally.

This means asylum claims made by anyone ‘at risk’ in a refugee camp, will be given priority over those coming here via France and other EU Member States, where they should already be evidently safe.

This is important as in the first three months of 2021, the number of migrant crossings to Britain from France was three times as many as in the first three months of 2020. What is more absurd is these migrant boats continue to be escorted into UK waters and onto our shores by the French, instead of being unloaded from unsafe small boats and simply returned to France.

Why on earth are we still sending millions of pounds every year to France to properly police these crossings if they are not doing so? I think it’s time to put this money to better use and invest in more border patrol vessels of our own!

Maudlin Piffle? Please Face Reality Where Life and Death Are Concerned. Assuming 'Everything Will Be Okay' Does Not Work!

 I looked through a list of obituaries recently. I could have wept - and not just for all the deaths - timely or otherwise - but because of the naive beliefs displayed by those left behind. They echoed the maudlin sentiments I have so often seen at the funerals of the ungodly.

There is a collection of piffle written or uttered: he is looking down from the stars; she is smiling with the angels; he's going to look after us from up there and you could undoubtedly add many many more. Utter drivel. Christians must not hold back from telling the truth about what rejecting God's Easter sacrifice actually means.

I do my very best to warn people about the reality of the situation. When you die it is either Heaven or Hell. Know and follow Jesus with a true heart and it will be the former; do not and it will be the latter. Is this really really too difficult to grasp?

Being a nice person; piling up more good deeds than bad; being a friend of the retired chaplain for the whole of the RAF (I kid you not!) simply will not cut it! End of!

You plan holidays and travel but make no plans for your ultimate journey?

You are going TO DIE. I do not know when and neither do you. 

I have come across several very unexpected deaths recently. Are you fully prepared to face God's judgement? How will you fare?

This Easter, get right with God. Accept Jesus into your heart and involve an evangelical church of any hue at the earliest stage. Let them help and guide you. (Do find out if the church you know accepts the Bible or whether it makes lame excuses for not doing. Such places will damage your spiritual health - irreparably.)

Jesus' victory over death remains our steadfast hope

I found myself being drawn back to Jon Stallworthy's excellent biography of the poet Wilfred Owen last weekend because I can't help comparing something he wrote with my understanding of Palm Sunday and all that followed Jesus' dramatic entrance into Jerusalem.

In April 1917, with World War I still raging, Owen and his fellow troops were ordered to move across open ground towards an area known as Savy Wood. The manoeuvre certainly took some courage because as soon as they started to advance they were met by a 'hurricane barrage' of high explosive shells.

Owen summed up the experience in these memorable words: "The sensations of going over the top are about as exhilarating as those dreams of falling over a precipice, when you see the rocks at the bottom surging up to meet you. I woke up without being squashed. Some didn't. There was an extraordinary exultation in the act of slowly walking forward showing ourselves openly."

I think of Palm Sunday, which we have just marked, as the day when Jesus finally went 'over the top'. It was the moment when He entered Jerusalem and threw down the gauntlet to the authorities. It was the day He finally 'brought things to a head' and challenged them to accept Him as their rightful King.

They didn't of course but that came as no surprise. They had very different agendas because they knew that if they acknowledged Him as their Messiah it would mean drastic changes, both for the Temple and those who ran it. It would mean a loss of prestige, power and a lucrative income. Running 'the system' was a very profitable business. Jesus knew it wouldn't end well then, and it didn't with a desperate Roman governor doing all he could to keep trouble to a minimum. And so, in contrast to Wilfred Owen, Jesus ended up 'squashed', or to put it more accurately 'crucified'. CT.
