Sins Are Like Chickens.

Hasn't May Done A Super Job For Her Own Party!

Major Conservative donors are refusing to give money to the party because of “disgust” at Theresa May’s leadership and her handling of Brexit, The Daily Telegraph can reveal.
The businessmen – who together have given millions of pounds to the party since Mrs May became Prime Minister – do not want to fund a potential snap general election with Mrs May still in post.
Several said they were planning to stay away from next month's glittering Black and White Ball, one of the party’s biggest annual fundraising events, when access to ministers is auctioned to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds.
On Tuesday MPs will vote on a series of possible measures to break the Brexit deadlock, with Tory backbenchers... Telegraph.

Cricket.

So much for all the arrogance about 'how England would brush the Windies aside in Barbados - after all,  it is only a preparation for the Ashes this summer' - REALITY ARRIVED and big style!
England were skittled for a derisory 77 in the first innings of the First Test, yesterday.
Defeat is 99.9% certain - and probably today!

The series win in Sri Lanka was, by no means, as convincing as the rabid optimists have been claiming. We won the toss in every test. Yesterday, Root lost the toss!
Please arrange these words into a well-known phrase or saying:
come ... roost ... have ... chickens ...the ... home ... to. (There is a clue in the picture, BTW.)

Question Time Last Night.

Mr Ferrari said: “To the gentleman who said £39billion is a lot of money, I would suggest that is a tremendous bargaining chip and we should start to play it much much harder.”
The £39billion figure is based on calculations the UK and EU have agreed which involves the UK continuing with paying outstanding commitments and contributing to the budget up to 2020.
Brexiteers reacted with anger when the Prime Minister announced she would be honouring these commitments even after we have left the EU.

Brexit Breakthrough? - Barnier Weakening?

Until now, intransigent EU officials have stonewalled requests to scrap the backstop but comments from Mr Barnier may force them to consider the formulation of a new strategy to save the Brexit deal.
After the Commission declared Dublin would be forced to implement a hard border in a no-deal Scenario, Mr Barnier revealed how the problem could be overcome in the future.
“If we’re facing a no-deal, we will, together with Ireland and the UK, have to find a way to carry out checks,” he told EU employers and trade union representatives on Wednesday. Express.
Just think what we could have achieved with real negotiation!

'Indolent!' - Why Has It Taken So Very Long To Get To This Point?

Supreme Court punts on important religious liberty case

The Supreme Court building in Washington, DC as featured in a Ted Cruz presidential campaign
It is difficult to find words that can adequately sound the alarm of the religious liberty threats we face as a nation. We are getting weaker by the moment on the protection of our “first freedom,” and the opposition gets bolder with every half-hearted attempt, whether by courts or opportunistic politicians, to take the middle ground where none exists.
The recent denial of cert. (judicial review) in the case of Coach Kennedy (Kennedy v. Bremerton School District), who was fired for daring to pray privately after high school football games, is a prime example of how anemic we have become. Concerned Women for America (CWA) submitted a brief in support of Coach Kennedy alongside other religious liberty organizations. The reasons the Supreme Court’s conservative majority gave for declining to hear the case are unpersuasive and should be a warning of trouble ahead for us all.
In a disappointing statement by Justice Samuel Alito, who was joined by Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh, they try to save face by reminding us that the “denial of certiorari does not signify that the Court necessarily agrees with the decision (much less the opinion) below.”
He is right. It does not mean that. It certainly does not mean they disagree with the decision either, or they would have vacated it. What they say is that, “In this case important unresolved factual questions would make it very difficult if not impossible at this stage to decide the free speech question that the petition asks us to review.”
What are these important “unresolved factual questions”? Well, the statement notes that Coach Kennedy was given two reasons for being fired: (1) that he neglected his responsibility to supervise his players while he was praying, and (2) that his actions would lead a reasonable observer to think the district was endorsing a religion. These reasons were given in writing. There is no factual question about them. Still, the statement of Justices Alito joined by Thomas, Gorsuch, and Kavanaugh, claims, “the court should have made a specific finding as to what petitioner was likely to be able to show regarding the reason or reasons for his loss of employment.”
For that reason, they actually concur in the denial. This is mindboggling. They criticize the district court for converging the two reasons together, but the district court is not wrong. The only reason he was fired is because he was praying.  Surely the justices do not think he would be fired if he goes to the restroom after the game, “leaving the kids unsupervised.” Coach Kennedy was fired because he dared say a private prayer in a way that could be seen publicly. He is Daniel praying in his chambers while being seen through the window. And our laws today in the year 2019 in America allow him to be thrown in the lion’s den of unemployment.
The justices’ statement does show some apprehension to this incredible injustice.  Alito writes, “While I thus concur in the denial of the present petition, the Ninth Circuit’s understanding of the free speech rights of public-school teachers is troubling and may justify review in the future.”
Oh good; Coach Kennedy might just need to spend another decade fighting this case in order to see justice. Listen to what they acknowledge:
According to the Ninth Circuit, public school teachers and coaches may be fired if they engage in any expression that the school does not like while they are on duty, and the Ninth Circuit appears to regard teachers and coaches as being on duty at all times from the moment they report for work to the moment they depart, provided that they are within the eyesight of students.
Exactly. Then, why in the world would they concur with denying judicial review? Why not take the case and undo the damage done by the Ninth Circuit? Send a clear message in support of religious freedom. The statement continues: “What is perhaps most troubling about the Ninth Circuit’s opinion is language that can be understood to mean that a coach’s duty to serve as a good role model requires the coach to refrain from any manifestation of religious faith — even when the coach is plainly not on duty.” Again, such blatant hostility towards religion is prohibited by the Constitution, which is why it is a shame the Court elected to punt on this case.
And it gets even worse. Alito again,
[T]he Court criticized him for “his media appearances and prayer in the BHS bleachers (while wearing BHS apparel and surrounded by others).” This conduct, in the opinion of the Ninth Circuit, “signal[ed] his intent to send a message to students and parents about appropriate behavior and what he values as a coach.” But when petitioner prayed in the bleachers, he had been suspended. He was attending a game like any other fan. The suggestion that even while off duty, a teacher or coach cannot engage in any outward manifestation of religious faith is remarkable. (Internal citations omitted)
These blatant violations of Coach Kennedy’s constitutional rights more than warrant the Supreme Court’s attention.  At a time when hostility towards Christian beliefs continue to rise in our country, it is unfortunate not to have enough votes at the Supreme Court to give a hearing to such an important case.
We are grateful the statement signals that this case is not over, “While the petition now before us is based solely on the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment, petitioner still has live claims under the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.” But people of faith all over America are rightly pondering if they will be the next victim of our lack of courage in protecting religious freedom. What will it take for us to wake up and fight for religious freedom with the resolve it warrants?

No Lingering Faith In UK Democracy.

People have been losing faith in politics and politicians for years. But when the people send instructions to their representatives, loud and clear, over and over again, and they still are talking about overturning Brexit, people are losing faith in the very fabric of our democracy.

Joni And Nick.

Ahead of Sanctity of Life Sunday, Joni Eareckson Tada, an advocate for people with disabilities, and evangelist Nick Vujicic opened up about their personal struggles and shared why they believe life is sacred from conception to death.
In a Facebook live video on Thursday, Tada, founder of the charity Joni and Friends, told Vujicic, head of the evangelistic ministry Life Without Limbs, that today, it’s not just the unborn whose sanctity of life is questioned: It's the elderly, those with catastrophic disabilities, and people suffering from psychiatric disorders.
There’s a pervasive mentality today that people are “better off dead than disabled,” Tada lamented, but abilities "don't determine our value." She noted that there are 27 states in the U.S. that are entertaining physician-assisted suicide bills and urged believers to “get involved” by reaching out to their state senator and representatives.
“Life is worth living,” she emphasized. “Disabilities are a fact of life ... the only way we can accept our limitations, whether great or small, is to recognize that we are created equal. And we’re all created equal in that we’re all born into original sin.”
Ascribing value to life, the author and speaker said, it's “directly related to what we think about God.”
“It’s not connected to whether or not we can walk, whether or not you’ve got arms, or whether or not my hands work,” she said. “It’s anchored in the fact that God made us. When you talk about your worth ... it’s all directly connected with the price that was paid for us ... the precious blood of Christ.”
“You want to know your worth? You want to know your price? Think about God, and what He paid for you,” she continued. “If we believe it’s beneath our human dignity to be weak or to be helpless ... then we’re operating out of pride. There’s no room for pride when you stop and think that you’re made in the image of God. When you realize you’re made in the image of God, there’s only humility.”
Tada reflected on her own struggles, and admitted that becoming a quadriplegic following a “reckless dive” at age 17 took a “long, long time” to get used to.
“I went from captain of the women’s lacrosse team in high school to being in a wheelchair without the use of my hands or legs,” she said. “It was more than just a little depressing.”
She shared how, the first time she got in a power wheelchair, she considered running it off a high curb.
“I thought, ‘it will be all over,’” she said. “And I look back and I think, ‘Thank God I never did that.’ But when someone else has to do your toileting routine, has to wipe your nose, and cut your food, you can be so easily convinced that, hey, I don’t have a quality of life. Life’s not worth living.”
While she still requires total assistance, Tada said her outlook is completely different today: “I’m made in the image of God. My body may be broken, but I’m a God reflector. I mirror a God who was pleased to make me in His image. To me, that is awesome.”
Vujicic, who was born with no arms or legs, told Tada that he, too, battled depression and questioned his worth as a teen and even attempted suicide at age 10. It wasn’t until he read the story of Jesus healing the blind man in John 9 that his perspective changed.
“Before healing the blind man, Jesus didn’t ... tell him the plan,” Vujicic said. “All these years, I asked God, ‘What’s your plan?’ But if He told us His plan, then why would we need faith? And that’s the journey, where we need our soul, our spirit, and our mind restored to really believe that these earthly bodies are just a vapor, and before we know it, we’re going to be up there.”
Emphasizing that God can use even broken vessels for good, Vujicic said he’s grateful that God continues to use him to “stand at the gates of Hell and redirect traffic.”
Tada, who recently revealed a new cancer diagnosis three years after being declared cancer-free following a battle with stage 3 breast cancer, said that every year she grows increasingly excited for Heaven.
“It makes me so excited to think that those who ‘seem’ to have a low life quality — in Heaven, they’re going to experience the fullness of joy forever, glorified bodies like His body. No more disabilities,” she said.
The best-selling author admitted that she used to say, “When I get to Heaven, I’m going to kick this wheelchair to Hell.”
But today, her perspective has changed: “Now, I think, ‘this is the tool that God used to shape me and change me and make me more like Him,’” she said. “It’s my companion. It’s a dark, scary companion at times, but it’s been His choicest way of transforming my life to be like Jesus. I know my wheelchair won’t be in Heaven, literally, but somehow, someway, I’m going to wear ... something that indicates that courage you might see in me. Guess what, it came from my disability and years of dealing with those tough limitations.”
“Heaven is going to show the good that is going to come from your disability,” she declared.
Tada and Vujicic closed their session by praying for the “least of those” — the elderly, the medically fragile, newborns with disabilities, the unborn, and others whose lives are at risk.
President Ronald Reagan established Sanctity of Life Sunday on Jan. 22, 1984, with intent to recognize the human dignity of unborn children. The observance is held on the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on women's access to abortion nationwide in Roe v. Wade. CP.

Permanent BST, Please.

The move would be in line with European proposals - announced earlier this year - which urged countries to decide by April which time zone they want to be in permanently. Mail.

Hollie.

Please pray for two year old Hollie. She had problems even before having to overcome a dreadful bout of meningitis - after having been supported with huge amounts of prayer.
When the doctor was asked about her future - he replied, "I do not know. We have never previously seen anyone survive meningitis this severe." Praise God!
Beforehand, she had leg problems and is currently unable to walk: she has been physically unable to speak.
I learned yesterday that she has now started to produce sounds. Praise God!
Please pray for this improvement to continue and that her legs will soon function properly too.
