Mr Huhne is wrong.

The disaster in Japan - thus far at least - has seen thousands of deaths and in spite of the unbelievable folly of constructing nuclear power stations in the middle of wild tectonic activity, it appears that there have been, as yet, no deaths caused by radiation escapes.
In other words, the natural disaster has killed many - nuclear power has not - however silly the original building locations.

Max Hastings puts matters in perspective as he warns the anti-nuclear lobby that we should all start 'hoarding candles':

'Chris Huhne’s commitment to Lib Dem green nonsense makes him a menace as the Government’s minister responsible for energy.
He pretends that renewables (wind generation foremost among them) can solve most of our problems, which is a huge untruth.
In the winter of 2009, Britain’s 2,800 hugely subsidised and vastly expensive turbines provided just 0.7 per cent of our energy needs.
