Really Should Be On The Paper - But Will It Be?

Economics Exam Question:
You live in a small semi and illegally buy a tasmanian devil cub - fatally attracted to its cuteness, of course - you obviously feel the need to give it the run of the house.
It is not too surprising that this little cutie pie begins to grow and fill the house. At the same time, you also know that it is possibly dangerous but put that thought to one side. Nonetheless, you bought it and so will try to see it through and the neighbours will just have to get used to it! You now find that everything in your home revolves around the youngster. As you would expect, it is eating you - out of house and home. Sadly, but perhaps inevitably, it lacks all tolerance. The bigger it grows, the more of a problem it becomes.
Tragically, you feel unable to backtrack and deliver Tas to a safari park as it would be announcing to the world that you have been wrong - and for a very long time.
Using this scenario as a model, explain the UK's role in firstly, The Common Market and latterly, The EU. [20 Marks.]
