Without wishing to be hurtful, Max was the proof that having limited talent was not just a feature of current singers and artistes.
The upside was that this most genial of men had the kind of personality which is sadly missing in our sick age.

Look at the lifestyles of so many singers - and I just cannot imagine what he made of the so-called comedians of the last quarter of a century.
