UK Food Production.

In 1991, this country's shortfall in food production was an alarming 25% but the trend has continued and the deficit now stands at 40%. (Some claim 10% higher than that!) This Blog has frequently warned of the dangers which are attached to this unhappy state of affairs. An over reliance on imported food could be an unmitigated disaster if anything serious were to happen on the global stage to interrupt the current system.
Compare the UK to Australia which produces 170% of the food it needs giving a huge boost to its export markets. 

For once, the NFU is perfectly correct to sound more than a tad alarmist.                                     Our rapidly growing population is exacerbating this state of affairs. Controlling the numbers coming to live on these overcrowded islands is as important as pushing up food production. It is this Blogger's opinion that our casual over-reliance on the EU has been one reason why we are in the current dangerous mess - and may even have been a deliberate europhile tactic - they are certainly capable of such chicanery!
