Decade upon decade, punishments for serious crimes have been reduced - to the point where incarcerating even the most violent of young offenders has become extremely difficult.
There is a direct correlation between this lack of punishment and the rise in knife crimes.
It is not that Mr Oversby is wrong in most of his assertions - he is not. His statement that 'tougher sentences will not end knife crime' is only true in part. Nothing will! But as sure as eggs is eggs, tough sentencing will produce the necessary deterrence to reduce it considerably.
The problem is rather that he is looking at a pig's tail and not seeing the full picture which is, in fact, a huge herd of porcines.
