We must preserve British English from ignorant, senseless Americanisms
The game Wordle, players complain, treats US English as the ‘correct’ form – the latest example of a dispiriting trend in many areas of life

The old joke about us and the Americans being two peoples separated by a common language is resonating again because of the success on the internet of the game Wordle. Although invented by a Briton – a Welshman who now lives in Brooklyn – the game (in which competitors have to guess a five-letter word) uses American spellings as a default. So one would have to guess “color” and not “colour”, or “honor” and not “honour”.... DT
