This is not merely incredible - but is wholly unprecedented. This was most assuredly NOT the practice in ancient times, nor AD, nor even in the cities of the 16th century and centuries beyond then.
This was a command from God for the Israelites - in very similar vein to many other such commands regarding hygiene barely ever seen again until the nineteenth century.
