A convicted murderer stabbed a British teenager to death and attacked his mother before turning the knife on himself and blowing up their home in Portugal.
Alfie Hallett, 13, is thought to have been killed by his mother’s former boyfriend at the property in Casais, in the Tomar region, on Tuesday.
The man, named by police sources as 43-year-old Goncalo Carvalho, tied up and stabbed Alfie’s 43-year-old mother, who is also believed to be British, before barricading himself in the house and attacking the boy.
Portugal’s Polícia Judiciaria force is understood to be working on the theory that Carvalho used the knife with which he killed the teenager to end his own life, shortly after causing a gas leak which led to the blast.
Alfie’s mother, who had been beaten and bound by her hands and feet, managed to escape and raise the alarm with her neighbours before being taken to hospital.
