Sudanese Persecution: Prayer Welcomed.

The recent kidnapping of two church leaders is one of several incidents causing concern for Christians in Sudan.
Attackers seized Rev Joseph Makwey and Rev Sylvester Mogga at gunpoint on January 15 after ram-raiding their church compound in Rabak, south of Khartoum, with a truck. A ransom demand has since been issued by suspected South Sudanese militia loyal to Sudan's Islamic Government. Local Christians are reported to be badly shaken by the attack.
But this militia threat is not the only worry for Christians in this mainly Arab and Muslim nation where Christianity is now widely regarded as a 'foreign' religion since the secession of South Sudan last July.
Police in Khartoum beat and arrested church leader and evangelist James Kat of the Evangelical Church of Sudan on January 17, apparently because he was using the church site as his home. He was released on bail the same day. Also, security agencies in the city have ordered Christians not to organise Bible exhibitions – an annual tradition for some churches.
Meanwhile, a letter from government officials to the Sudanese Presbyterian Evangelical Church threatened to arrest pastors carrying out evangelism or refusing to provide church leaders' names and contact details. (Release Int.)

I've just been listening a to a lady - Sharon Oakes from The Green Party National Executive - on the steam radio.

The hypocrisy was breathtaking.

All the utilitarian arguments used for by-passes in order to reduce traffic congestion in towns and all so roundly rejected by that party are now being trotted out  - except not for roads but in favour of WIND TURBINES.

Talk about double standards!

Death Sentences.

'The three men connected with the 2010 Our Lady of Salvation church attack in central Baghdad, Iraq, which killed 52 people, have had their death sentences confirmed.

They were initially sentenced to death on Aug. 2, 2011, with an accomplice receiving 20 years in prison, and now the Iraqi appeals court confirmed that the men will be executed for their crimes.' AFP reported. (Christian Post.)
Killing people indiscriminately with a planted bomb is perhaps as heinous a crime as any I can think of. How embarrassing that an Islamic country can, on occasion, have a better perception of what justice is than what we have in the UK where a pretty meaningless 'life sentence' in similar circumstance fails markedly to deliver.
Even so. It is right and proper that we pray that these men will find Jesus in the days that remain to them. If we hold bitterness in our hearts - that places us neatly in the wrong.

'The only film ever banned in the UK on the grounds of blasphemy has finally been given a certificate, more than 20 years after it was made.

Short film Visions Of Ecstasy - which features Jesus being seduced on the cross - was originally refused a rating because it was thought to fall foul of blasphemy laws.
