Test Match Update.

On a track with uneven bounce - all the England batsmen did well. Only Root got out to a careless stroke.
All other dismissals came about from Pakistani excellence or an unpredictable pitch.
England's lead may be enough already but any increase will put the visitors' batsmen into very tricky territory when they start their second innings later today.

NHS guilty of ridiculous waste of resources and could improve care without spending a penny more, top medic says(Blogger: On personal experience alone, I know this article to be true. But bed-blocking does not just arise from the reasons below.)

The NHS is guilty of a “ridiculous waste of resources” - and could improve care without spending a penny more, it’s most senior doctor says.
Prof Keith Willett, medical director for acute care, urged medics to stop “fuming” when the system “grinds to a halt” and instead do more to prevent beds being blocked by patients who should have been discharged.
He said too many surgeons were left unable to operate - sometimes on a daily basis - because of a failure to tackle bedblocking, with beds filled by those unable to be discharged for want of help at home.

Prayer For Vietnam Is Desperately Needed.

URGENT PRAYER NEEDED FOR VIETNAM

On 4 June, Protestant pastor Nguyen Trung Ton will be appealing his 12 year prison sentence. He’s one of six defendants, including human rights lawyer Nguyen Van Dai, that were given lengthy prison sentences in April. Four of the defendants are appealing their sentences on 4 June.
Pastor Ton’s son has specifically asked us to pray for him and the other defendants on that day: please surround them and their families with prayer and pray for wisdom for their lawyers.

In summary, please pray:
  • For peace and strength for the two church leaders, Simeon Valsalam and Chellian Manuvel.
  • That the Holy Spirit would spread peace over the village and there would be no further incidents of harassment of Christians.
  • That Pastor Ton’s conviction will be overturned and he will be released. CSW.

Silencing Dissent Kills Science.

“SILENCING DISSENT KILLS SCIENCE”, as marine scientist Professor Pete Ridd is dismissed by James Cook University (Queensland, Australia). Popular columnist Andrew Bolt in Courier Mail 24 May 2018, p. 46, reported this after Dr Ridd questioned claims that man-made global warming is destroying the Great Barrier Reef. Bolt commented: “He may be right, he may be wrong. This is a vital question that must be answered with arguments”. He goes onto to say, “We cannot get good science if we cannot debate”. Bolt states good science is necessary in this issue because of the impact it has on people’s lives, with increases in gas and electricity costs, and the closing down of some industries leading to job losses and business closures. He then mentions other academics who have been silenced for questioning man-made global warming, and quotes some prominent politicians who agree that universities should be encouraging debate, not shutting it down. He concludes: “Dissent must not be crushed if science is to advance.”

ED. COM: Bolt is correct! Closing down serious debate is not good for any science, or for any issue that impacts people’s lives, and climate change isn’t the only issue where silencing those opposed to popular beliefs kills good science. Truth is not determined by which pressure groups can influence the politicians and media, or by a majority vote. The same applies to education authorities who prevent teachers and university lecturers from teaching any alternative to evolution. However, the worst offenders for closing down debate on creation are church groups and university student ministries who label themselves evangelical Bible believers but refuse to let students hear or discuss the evidence for Biblical creation. We have had this complaint to us mostly concerning Moore College influenced campus groups. The sceptical atheists and humanists are at least being consistent in their beliefs, even if they are wrong. Those claiming to believe the Bible, but prevent any serious discussion on Creation, Noah’s Flood and Babel are hypocrites, as well as promoting a Jesus who has not told the truth about creation. Creation Research.

Double Standards Alert?

May 18th, 2018
An Iraqi doctor who practices as a GP in Berkshire was cleared of sexual misconduct at a Medical Tribunal Hearing this week where his ‘inappropriate’ behaviour was put down to his ‘different cultural background’. Dr Aladadi will return to work after a four-month suspension. Tim Dieppe argues that someone’s cultural background should not be used to excuse their behaviour. Moral laws have a transcendent source in the Lord God of the Bible who is the moral law giver. Christian Concern.

Second Test.

Pakistan were as mistaken to opt to bat first at Headingley, yesterday, as had been the England skipper, Joe Root, in the First Test at Lords.
Skittled for a 174, it really seems that the England bowlers had a field day - but this was far from the case.
Although the three senior England seamers each had a three wicket haul, on the day - the bowling which saw Pakistan tottering on the brink of an early defeat at 79 for 7, had actually been rather indifferent.

The old failings were there with far too many balls short of the requisite length. The seven wickets tumbled as England bowled a relatively small number of very good balls in the extremely helpful, Headingley conditions. The day was muggy and the ball swung to a significant degree.
79 for 7 was the high point of the bowling - and from there it went badly downhill with shameful control of line and length. The last three Pakistan wickets more than doubled the score from the point when the first seven batsmen were back in the pavilion.
Chris Woakes was especially profligate but not the only guilty party.
The England openers saw off the new ball before departing to leave England in a stronger position at stumps than their performance had merited. 70 odd runs behind - 8 wickets in hand.
What will England do next to fritter away this position of strength, I wonder?

Jonathan Arnott MEP Retweeted Sky News
I don't recall ever meeting anyone who holds to the vile attitudes towards skin colour implied in this video. I'm not left-wing; society isn't an amorphous blob. It's individuals, people like you and me, being accused of these things. Such 19th century attitudes aren't my Britain

Second (and final) Test v Pakistan Starts Today.

The Test begins today at Headingley. Surely it cannot be as much of a fiasco as what we witnessed at Lords!
With India due to come here shortly for a full series with a full programme of one day matches too - I am filled with fear and trepidation.
India are three notches better than Pakistan!

The Right To Kill Children: Next The Grandparents: Then The Inconvenient: Ironically - NEVER Murderers, Assassins and Planters of Bombs.

The right to kill our children is never far from permission to murder your parents! Yet in another example of democracy’s totally inability to decide right from wrong, the republic of Irelands feminists are rejoicing they can legally dispose their human foetuses.

Sadly, this increasing trend of democracy to legislate right or wrong reminds us of the pagan origins of democratic systems using man as the measure of all things. Only when man is anchored to an outside absolute Being such as Jesus Christ, does democracy have a shadow of hope at achieving a caring society. But unhooked from the Creator and Redeemer, democracy becomes one of the world's worst routes, first to amorality, and finally immorality. Such a democracy’s end is almost predictable, because the moral chaos that results almost always necessitates people demanding a return to some kind of certainty – even if it means rule by a strong man. One who can buy peace, bully subordinate‘s and authorise trade only with the approved. Perhaps even more surprising it may also lead to a willing submission to Islam, whose track record is as bitter enemy of all things democratic.

Long ago the Creator God stated that ‘all who hate me love death’ (Proverbs 8:36) , and sadly that is where much of the west has headed, Irish feminists included. How doubly sad that the Roman Church’s role in Ireland has only been to hinder to the point of desperate demand, both in regard to marriage and perpetual pregnancy. Yes, the Catholic Church’s stand on marriage, dominated by rules from celibate clergy, actually led to a country that had the world highest number of “unmarried couples living together,” because of their fear of being unable to fix any problems with the Church’s help. Combined with the recent global spate of ungodly sexual behaviours by priests, costing them much of the respect they sought, and leading to many abandoning what they perceived was Christianity.

Only by returning to a personal faith and relationship to the Creator who became the Redeemer, can any of this be turned back in a right God-pleasing and human blessing direction. Now enjoy the fascinating evidence of God’s wonderful handiwork in this ENews 05/18, which is perhaps seen best in the Human embryo - not a thing, but a real person and gift from the God to whom we will be accountable for any abuse of babes, before or after birth.

In Our Crazy 'Brave New World' - How Could It Be Otherwise?

.

Children can't talk dress or write properly at 4 says Ofsted report
In a damning verdict on the standard of some modern-day parenting, Amanda Spielman (pictured main) will highlight the rising number of pre-school children in the UK who are not taught basic speech or hygiene. She will reveal research which shows some four- and five-year-olds know only a third of the words they should, meaning they cannot follow what is going on at school and quickly fall behind - a disadvantage that can stay with them for life. While Mrs Spielman will not explicitly accuse families of feckless parenting, she will acknowledge that parents 'clearly have the most important role here' when it comes to solving the issues. Ofsted's intervention as the official inspector of pre-schools is significant because it places an onus on nursery staff to act. Mrs Spielman wants all children arriving at Reception - the first year of school - to be able to carry out simple tasks, such as using a pencil, kicking a ball, putting on their shoes and taking off their coat. Trance.

I have just watched the film called 'Trance' by Danny Boyle.
What an illogical, deliberately confusing, lunatic, convoluted, nonsensical - but well acted - deranged heap of aardvark dung.
This Blog gives the film a flattering 1.5/10.
