Dr Gabb - Worrying Options.

The recent lecture was titled: National Sovereignty or EU Membership: Which is the Least Bad Option? Dr. Gabb introduced an inspiring alternative to the usual euroscepticism of British free-market advocates. They consider EU as a socialist, or at least a corporatist, project. They have focused on its liking for increased levels of tax and regulation, and its commitment to environmentalist untruths about global warming. There is, however, an argument against this hostility. The European Union is not, in itself, a liberal project. But libertarians have tended to assume that, free from rule by the European Union, the Member States would become more liberal. This may, in many cases, be an unrealistic assumption. According to Dr. Gabb, the threat to individual freedom coming from the local interest groups is often higher than the threat coming from Brussels.

The Evil Assumption On Which The EU Was Founded.

Lord Lothian: "National sovereignty is the root cause of the most crying evils of our time and the steady march of humanity back to tragic disaster and barbarism ... the only final remedy for this supreme and catastrophic evil of our time is the federal union of the peoples."
Is it really possible to misread politics and history so ineptly? - Well, this is where the idiocy begins. Lord Lothian, first and foremost, was a Foreign Office appeaser of Hitler back in the 30s. Thus, any political assessment made by this misguided wretch must be seen as potentially flawed. What right did he have to make such sweeping pronouncements without a shred of evidence?
The man seems incapable of discerning the distinction between rampant imperialism and the need for rights to self determination. What are the grounds for his massive assumption that federalism solved: a) The problem of imperialism and b) The requirements of peace? In actual fact, he advocates (what he hopes will be) a benevolent dictatorship of European federalists without a scintilla of evidence that this is either desirable or possible. Here is the error-ridden philosophy on which today's EU was based. The quote above is etched in stone at the EU Parliament.

Jehovah's Witness Convention In Sheffield.

When you have a cult which so wantonly distorts so many aspects of The Word of God - describing this as an infestation would perhaps be better than as a convention!

Dawkins: Private Eye Published Letter.

Sir, Richard Dawkins says that it is 'pernicious' to thell children that (in fairy tales) the frog turned into a prince. How strange! Dawkins, as a devout darwinist, believes almost exactly that.

Manufacturing Jobs.

Yesterday, somebody tipped me off that I should try to get hold of the figures for lost manufacturing jobs. Apparently, I should be comparing the Thatcher/Major era to that of subsequent Labour administrations - especially the reign of Tony Blair. Hmm.

Borders Out Of Control.

Major questions have been raised over Britain’s ability to catch jihadist terrorist suspects returning to the country, after figures showed that thousands of illegal immigrants are disappearing through the UK’s porous borders every year. The Home Office data, obtained by The Telegraph, show a dramatic increase in the proportion of immigrants who vanish after being stopped at border checks for carrying false passports or incorrect visas. Seaports handling coach-loads of visitors, and border checks on the Eurostar route at Lille in France, are believed to have been particularly vulnerable to illegal immigrants in recent years.Figures released by the Government under Freedom of Information laws showed that 3,527 immigrants absconded after failing border checks last year. Only 846 were found, meaning 76 per cent – about 2,700 – remained at large. Telegraph.

Mixed Race UKIP MEP To Take Charge Of Immigration Policy.

Ukip's new migration spokesperson Steven Woolfe has promised to forge the "most ethical immigration policy" of all the parties in the run up to the general election. After being named migration and financial affairs spokesman today by party leader Nigel Farage, Woolfe told the Huffington Post UK that the party's stance would be to ensure that Britain remained "open to the world" while "recognising that we have finite policies that we have to manage sensibly".
Woolfe, a mixed-race Mancunian lawyer who was elected to the European Parliament for the North West in May, recently came to prominence when he made an impassioned defence of Ukip's record at attracting black and ethnic members. Speaking at the party's pre-election rally in London, Woolfe, who has an Irish mother and an African-American father, said: "I am a proud Englishman, I am a proud Briton, I am a proud mixed race person and I am a proud member of Ukip." Conservative voters quit party over same-sex 'marriage' Act

Ben Harris-Quinney
Conservative Grassroots

Former grassroots members have left the Conservative Party because David Cameron pushed the same-sex 'marriage' law through parliament, according to leading party activists.
The fall in subscriptions has led to a major loss of income for the Conservative Party.
A new survey of 262 party associations reveals that 211 of them report a fall in subscriptions, with losses in Cabinet ministers’ constituencies in particular.
Party activists say that grassroots supporters are discontent with the Conservative leadership because the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act was never mentioned in the Queen’s Speech or promised in the party manifesto. Christian Concern.

The Underclass.

Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali has warned that the latest revelation of the scale of Britain's "underclass" -  half a million problem families -  is "only the tip of an iceberg which is lurking to shipwreck society".
He was commenting on an interview given to the Sunday Times by Louise Casey, the troubleshooter engaged by David Cameron in 2011 to turn round a problem then estimated at 120,000 failing families, following the urban summer riots.

Casey, Director General of Troubled Families, now calculates that the problem is four times greater with dysfunctional families blighting neighbourhoods and costing the taxpayer more than £30bn a year.
Bishop Michael says, "The impact of family failure is greater than Louise Casey estimates and it is increasing exponentially with the subliminal cost of associated social ills such as treating depression, anxiety, other related illnesses, disruption at school and in the workplace - all adding to the bill for dealing with the more conspicuous law and order costs."

Marine Le Pen.

Brigitte Bardot calls Marine Le Pen 'modern Joan of Arc'.

Former actress Brigitte Bardot says she hopes the far-right leader will be the saviour of France in a Paris-Match interview before her 80th birthday. Telegraph.

Okay. I accept that Marine Le Pen is taking Le Front National away from the vile extremes embraced by her father but that French party is still a long way away from any form of respectability. (Indeed, her father is still central to what they are and do.) No. Sorry, BB but this won't do!

Christianity In Politics.

Which would I rather have in a leading politician:
1) A proclamation of faith which is not evidenced by his/her political actions?
2) No evidence of faith and the enabling of anti-Christian legislation? Or
3) Somebody who is not a Christian but respects those who are?
From what he has said and written, Nigel Farage seems somewhat puzzled by Christianity but look at what he states - and means:
"Yet we must not stop speaking the truth and following our consciences - when we stop doing that and give up on our principles, that is when everything is lost. Under UKIP, we will ensure everyone has the right to speak out without fear of persecution for following their consciences and principles."

Palestinian Casualties - The Root Cause.

From: Martin D. Stern, Hanover Gardens, Salford. I WONDER where Brian Lewis (The Yorkshire Post, August 6) managed to find a group of Israeli people chanting “No schools are needed in Gaza because there will soon be no children”, but the implication that they are typical is a gross slander. Such fringe groups are disowned by the vast majority of Israelis. That “too many places where children gather have been bombed” is a consequence of Hamas’s use of schools, hospitals, mosques and apartment blocks for the storage of munitions, digging of cross-border attack tunnels and rocket launching – themselves clear war crimes – with the deliberate intention that there will be civilian casualties. This is the primary reason for the death and maiming of children in Gaza, not the efforts of the Israeli army to dislodge those shooting rockets at Israeli civilians.
