Lord Lothian: "National sovereignty is the
root cause of the most crying evils of our time and the steady march of humanity
back to tragic disaster and barbarism ... the only final remedy for this supreme
and catastrophic evil of our time is the federal union of the
peoples."
Is it really possible to misread
politics and history so ineptly? - Well, this is where the idiocy begins. Lord
Lothian, first and foremost, was a Foreign Office appeaser of Hitler back in the
30s. Thus, any political assessment made by this misguided wretch must be seen
as potentially flawed. What right did he have to make such sweeping
pronouncements without a shred of evidence?
The man seems incapable of discerning
the distinction between rampant imperialism and the need for rights to self
determination. What are the grounds for his massive assumption that federalism
solved: a) The problem of imperialism and b) The requirements of
peace? In actual fact, he advocates (what he
hopes will be) a benevolent dictatorship of European federalists without a
scintilla of evidence that this is either desirable or possible. Here is the error-ridden philosophy on
which today's EU was based. The quote above is etched in stone at the EU Parliament.
