Thousands of workers at health quangos whose jobs are to be axed in a much-vaunted Government efficiency drive will be rehired in a vast new ‘super-quango’, it has emerged.
The Coalition is to set up an organisation called Public Health England to oversee council-run projects tackling obesity, helping smokers to quit and providing support for drug addicts and alcoholics.
It is not yet known how many bureaucrats will be employed in the body’s various tiers and regional branches but ministers have already filled 5,000 posts – even though it will not launch until April 2013.
