Chris Huhne.

Do I sympathise with Mr & the former Mrs Huhne? - NOT a single jot!
Do I feel that justice has been done? - Ah, well - there's the rub. Not really.
Was the sentence appropriate? - Extremely.
BUT. In ten years on the Bench, I only once sentenced anyone to a period beyond 6 months (that IS possible) as our hands as magistrates were frequently tied.

How many utter toerags who deserved sentences as at least as long as those of the Huhnes escaped our clutches with derisory sentencing over years - who can say? - But it will be in hundreds.
On a scale of one to ten, the Huhnes were around 3/10, yet I was not permitted to jail 8s, 9s & 10s!
They have been comparatively ill-treated by the system and it may well be argued that they have been punished 'for their fame'.
But then - to whom much is entrusted, much is expected, I must suppose.
