Rightwing?

I am rather bemused that whenever I look up 'Ukip' via Google or see descriptions of the party elsewhere - it is described as 'rightwing'.
True - it is clearly to the right of three centre left parties, the LibLab Con, but to be fair, that only makes the party centrist.
May I explain again that the party has members from very mixed backgrounds and covers centre (non Liberal) left to old tory, medium right.
My problem is that 'rightwing' has a kind of derogatory resonance today and accuracy would be greatly preferred.
(Even so - why 'rightwing' should ever be considered worse than 'leftwing' confuses me greatly.)
It is a long time since the UK had a centre right party. I am convinced that most voters are in fact 'centre right' but inevitably huge numbers of this group will have nothing whatsoever to do with the tories and their perceived 'protection of privilege'.
Ukip has no such millstones around its neck.
All of this reminds me of when the 'old guard' were trying to fight off Gorbachev's soviet reforms - the leftwing media began referring to these as 'rightwingers'! The left's propaganda machine is truly amazing, innit?
