Professor John Ashton, president of the Faculty of Public Health, has stated that the 'school run should be abandoned for health reasons'.I assume that the good professor has not considered the main reason for its existence? Over indulgent parents? - To some extent. But no.
If we put aside the sheer distances involved in so many locations, the principal reason is that so many parents live in places where the streets are just not safe!
On different occasions - both my sons were beaten up ON THE STREETS when teenagers by yobs they had never met before! One incident was in Sheffield and one in a nearby village.
