Freight - Not Thinking It Through.

I have just listened to a Labour MP insisting that the bulk of freight should travel by rail.
How often we hear this pie-in-the-sky claptrap from leftists and greens.
YES. Of course, it would be preferable but this is just not feasible.
How many factories possess a railhead: a direct link into the network? And how many distribution centres do? Retail outlets?
No, and worse than this - you LOSE possession of your valuable cargo as you hand it over to the railways and trust them? - Will there really be same day delivery?
So. You have to have a fleet of vans and lorries to take your goods to the railhead; load them; unload them; lose control; have an extra fleet of vans and lorries at the other end waiting; reload; finally unload at the destination.
Well that sounds super-efficient and will obviously cut prices dramatically in the retail outlets!
