A life sentence for 'an ordinary murder' should now be a derisory
twelve years, apparently. Back when the death penalty was abolished - I remember
all the promises from countless sources that 'life would mean life'. With some
4,000 'lifers' in our prisons - currently, fewer than four dozen have 'full life
tariffs'.
