A
recent poll suggested that the Tory Party is to the right of UKIP. The' usual
suspects' talked this down as 'political ignorance'.
But,
it is just possible that us common folk know more than we are being
given credit for. Certainly, UKIP cares considerably more about ordinary working
people than do the Tories - which might largely explain that poll result.
Populism
is only rightwing in the eyes of the chatterati
who have always despised the views of the 'pleb classes'. Most assuredly, these
people always 'know better' than us ordinary mortals.
Indeed,
it is incredibly difficult to argue against the view that 'populism' must
represent the true centre of politics. I
know Mr Farage does not like the term - but it is irrefutable that UKIP loves
democracy to such an extent that 'populist' is indeed, a reasonable description.
It is far from the dirty word the party's enemies would have us believe. That
has to be what 'direct democracy' means.
