Egyptian Christians say radical groups and security forces sympathetic to
them are attacking churches with impunity.
Over Easter, police and security officials raided a building linked to
the Maghagha archbishopric of Minya. They seized belongings and attacked young
people there, claiming the church building was unlicensed.
The archbishopric said in a statement that the raid was a ‘blatant
assault’ on holy sites and religious rights. It called on the Government to
investigate and bring those responsible to justice.
Another, partially built church in Minya was attacked with Molotov
cocktails the week before, soon after a demonstration was held against its
construction. Seven people were injured in the attack. Another church in
Samalout near Minya was targeted the previous week.

PRAY NOW that the Egyptian
Government and local officials will take firm action to uphold in practice the
religious rights of our Christian brothers and sisters. Release
