Odd. There Was No EU When I Went To University To Study Languages.

Britain risks becoming a 'monolingual society' after Brexit, headteachers warn amid steep decline in modern language degrees.

Headteachers have previously called for exams to be made easier as entries for GCSEs in French and German have dropped significantly. DT.
Blogger: there was no EU in 1970 - just The Common Market and yet I took a degree which covered four European languages and studied Spanish Literature in Madrid.
Modern Languages are, today, demonstrably more difficult than other subjects at examination level - even after allowing for the 'dumbing down' at that sad point when 'O' Levels were replaced by GCSEs. Here is the root cause of the problem.
So many have misleadingly called out our removal from the EU's propaganda-ridden, Erasmus Project as a blow to MFL study.
How did I manage to study in Madrid when there was no such project, I wonder?
The 'Boris replacement' plan will offer better with no EU propaganda at all but will not solve the languages problems in schools.
Pupils are voting with their feet because they have to work harder in MFL.
The worst thing that any government did was in the early 70s when University matriculation, across all academic subjects, no longer required an 'O' level in a modern language.
THAT was the point when inestimable damage for MFL came to pass. As a nation, we are still suffering from that feeble decision some five decades later.
