Mr Markham was the 49th person to be stabbed to death in London this year. A 16-year-old lad became the 50th when he died in hospital yesterday (TUES) nine days after being knifed in a park in Tottenham, north London. Aol.
Blogger: and yet, in Sheffield Crown Court - a man who stabbed someone else TWICE escaped with a 15 month sentence SUSPENDED two days ago!
Carrying a knife on the streets - other than the smallest of penknives - should always attract a custodial sentence.
Stabbing someone and them walking free out of a courtroom is insanity!
Deterrence is not just some vague and largely abstract concept. Without it, we as a society have seen crime rise by many hundreds of per cent since the start of the second half of the 20th century. (You know - a time when, by today's standards, 80%+ of the population would have been deemed to be living in POVERTY!)
