Sir Keir Starmer claimed Labour is "very much the party of law and order" as he accused the Tories of failing to do enough to tackle anti-social behaviour.
Both Labour and the Tories have set out competing pledges on combatting crime in recent weeks as they jostle for position ahead of the local elections next month.
Speaking during a visit to Burnley College in East Lancashire this morning Sir Keir said: "I myself was director of public prosecutions before I became leader of the Labour Party. So I spent five years across the country, here in Burnley and other places, working with the police and communities to prosecute all criminal offences.
"So we are very much the party of law and order and that’s because we understand the impact that crime has on the lives of so many people across the country." DT.
