Richard Tice hit back at claims that Brexit is to blame for slow UK growth in a fiery clash with a Remainer.
The Reform UK leader pointed to excessive regulation and high taxes after Britain dipped into recession as he debated podcaster Jemma Forte on Jeremy Vine on Five.

He highlighted how EU big beast Germany is also in recession and "doing worse than we are".

The moment came as the show discussed whether Brexit was a mistake.

Mr Tice said: "Let's just go back to Germany which is in recession because it completely undermines your hopeless case.

"Germany is in recession, it's doing worse than we are, it's the biggest economy in the eurozone and that proves my point.

"It's got nothing to do with Brexit, it's because of overregulation, over taxes and the madness of net zero."

Ms Forte responded: "I absolutely love it, this is what they do, the German whataboutery, it's what you to try and gaslight us."

Mr Tice asked if she was denying that Germany is in recession.

She said: "Absolutely not."

Mr Tice added: "I rest my case."
