Many liberal news outlets regard their readers with such contempt that they censor the news in the hopes of preventing the unwashed masses, who can’t be trusted with the truth, from coming to the “wrong” conclusions about groups they champion, such as illegal immigrants.
The Journal’s disclaimer, also placed up top, read: “Decades of research have found that immigrants are less likely than native-born Americans to commit crimes and that neighborhoods with greater concentrations of immigrants have lower rates of crime and violence”.
The Journal’s link to this “decades of research” is a massive study on immigration carried out by sociologists referencing other sociologists. The problem here is that sociology is nowadays basically the study of how to be a left-wing activist, so much so that the Florida government has de-emphasised it in Florida colleges for that exact reason. The Post links to a similar academic study which concludes that migrants commit fewer crimes, but doesn’t examine illegal immigrants, and admits that migrants from Mexico and Central America have had higher incarceration rates than native born Americans since 2005.
The truth is that we don’t have reliable data detailing illegal immigrant crime because almost all states do not record criminals’ immigration status and it is often impossible to separate out the illegals. One might also note that all illegal migrants have committed at minimum a misdemeanor simply by entering the USA illegally, and sometimes a full blown crime – as when a person has been formally deported and then returned without permission. It is also common practice to “control for age and sex” when attempting to prove that there’s no link between migration and crime, which ignores the fact that migrants are disproportionately young men – the group that commits most violent crime.
The UK for its part would seem to be experiencing an explosion of violent crime committed by women: but it’s not true. This is a consequence of recording crimes by trans women as being committed simply by “women”, as was the case with Scarlet Blake.
Whitewashing the immigration status of criminals is a pattern, not a new tactic for the media. For example, last May, The Wall Street Journal published a lengthy piece about Francisco Oropesa, an illegal alien accused of killing five Honduran immigrants execution-style – including an eight year old – omitting the fact that he was in the country illegally and had been deported four previous times. Ooops.
Often, the media simply ignores migrant crime stories. For example, few national outlets reported that earlier this month a 15-year old Venezuelan migrant who just arrived in September was charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting a Brazilian tourist while aiming for a nearby security guard – in Times Square! And of course, the liberal media here was outraged when Donald Trump created The Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) Office, since shuttered by the Biden Administration in 2021, insisting that migrant crime is rare and it’s racist to highlight individual cases.
A new poll from Monmouth University indicates that 84 per cent of Americans consider illegal immigration a serious problem and a majority of Americans want a border wall. Another from Harvard-Harris reveals that immigration is now the top election issue for a plurality of voters. Trump and Biden understand the stakes and are both headed to the border to blame each other on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Fourth Estate and the nation’s sociology faculties still haven’t given up on trying to convince Americans that open borders are a great idea. DT.
