Help bring hope to the harassed this Christmas and beyond
Hi All. As many of us gather in our churches over Christmas, let’s remember Reverend Yahia Nalu, Chairman of the Sudan Presbyterian Evangelical Synod. After his church was set on fire, he told us: ‘The extremists have always wanted to destroy the churches in Sudan, particularly our church, the evangelical church, and there is no better time than the current one. [It was] not only our church in Wad Madani that was burned, but the Greek church which is next door and used by Coptics was also burned days after[wards]’ This wasn’t the first time that Reverend Nalu and his family had been impacted by the destruction of a church. Just months before, in December 2023, the Rapid Support Forces (a paramilitary force) looted his home in Omdurman, and burned the evangelical church next door to the school where he lived. Sadly, we hear stories like Reverend Nalu’s all too often. Thousands of people are forced out of their homes and communities because of their beliefs around the world. Your gift will enable us to document these cases of human rights violations and raise them at the highest levels of decision-making, including at the United Nations and European Parliament. Through your giving, you will help to educate and challenge those in positions of power. Without this documented evidence, it’s unlikely that any action will be taken or anyone held accountable. You will play a key part in ensuring that the voices of Reverend Nalu – and millions of others who are being targeted for their beliefs around the world – are heard. Grace and peace, Scot Bower |
