Bless Those Imprisoned For Their Beliefs This Christmas.

‘Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself.’ (Hebrews 13:3a NLT) Hi All, Christmas in Cuba is typically a large family affair. For Jorge Sr and Marta, this would involve gathering around the table with their adult sons, daughters in law and grandchildren to celebrate the birth of Jesus. But this year there will be two empty chairs at the table. Their sons Jorge Jr and Nadir are in prison – detained for taking part in peaceful protests in Cuba in July 2021. This will be the family’s fifth Christmas without them. It’s because of this family that I want to ask: could you give £4 this Christmas to help people targeted because of their beliefs? Make my gift Your gift will go twice as far, too, because generous supporters will match your donation pound for pound up to £48,200. Jorge Jr (42) and Nadir (41) are just two of over a thousand political prisoners in Cuba, many of them also arrested during the 2021 protests. In prison, the brothers have been blocked from receiving a Bible and visits from a chaplain. Sadly, this isn’t unusual: 70% of prisoners in Cuba say they have experienced mistreatment or discrimination because of their religious beliefs, according to our research in 2025. Can you imagine being called a ‘religious worm’ by prison guards, or being threatened with solitary confinement if you get caught praying or singing? It isn’t right for people like Jorge and Nadir to be imprisoned for their beliefs and to continue facing discrimination for their faith in prison. Together, we can stand with them and others facing injustice for their beliefs this Christmas. Please will you make a gift, and remember, your donation is worth double today! Jorge, Nadir and those in prison aren’t the only ones being targeted for their beliefs – their loved ones are too. Jorge Sr and Marta were asked not to attend the church where they served as leaders because the government threatened their pastor. These tactics are part of a longtime government strategy to isolate individuals like Jorge Sr and Marta, to stop them from speaking out on behalf of their sons and to increase pressure on them inside prison. This Christmas, as we celebrate the hope and freedom we have through Christ, please remember those who can’t rejoice so freely in your prayers and giving. Thank you so much for joining us in helping those who are targeted for their beliefs. Grace and peace, Scot Bower CEO PS. Please stand with those facing injustice for the beliefs this Christmas by making a gift. And once you’ve given you’ll have the opportunity to write a message of encouragement to Jorge Sr and Marta Follow us CSW is a human rights organisation specialising in freedom of religion or belief, and as Christians we stand with everyone facing injustice because of their religion or belief.
