How the West Midlands police fitted up the Jews to appease the Islamists

The takeaway from the West Midlands policing scandal is that, as a result of the worship of multiculturalism, the British police are now doing the bidding of Islamic extremists while scapegoating Jews targeted for Muslim violence.
The revelations about this affair, which have surfaced in leaked minutes or were extracted from the police through the brave and determined efforts of the Conservative MP Nick Timothy and an equally commendable determination by the Commons home affairs select committee, have been ever more astounding. They reveal a governing class in moral and cultural free-fall, putting the security of British people — both Jews and non-Jews — in danger.
The affair started when Maccabi Tel Aviv football club was due to play Aston Villa in Birmingham last November. Birmingham council banned Maccabi’s away-fans on the advice of the West Midlands police who said it was “high risk” for Maccabi supporters to go to the game, referring to the violent scenes in 2024 when Maccabi had played the Dutch side Ajax in Amsterdam.
Since that violence had amounted to a near pogrom by Arabs against the Israeli fans — described by the Arabs themselves as a “Jew-hunt” — it was widely assumed that the police were saying they couldn’t protect those fans in Birmingham against similar Muslim mobs. The city’s Muslims, however, insisted that, on the contrary, they needed to be protected from the Israelis.
It’s now emerged that, at the first meeting of the local advisory group that deals with safety considerations at football matches, the police recommended a ban on the Maccabi fans “in the absence of intelligence”.
However, a review by Mark Roberts, Chief Constable for Cheshire and head of the UK football policing unit, revealed that the initial concern by the police was prompted by “high confidence intelligence” that elements of “the community” in the West Midlands were hostile to Maccabi fans because of their nationality and wanted to “arm” themselves against them.
At that first safety advisory group meeting, two anti-Israel Birmingham councillors, Waseem Zaffar and Mumtaz Hussain, said the whole Muslim community wanted the Maccabi supporters banned. Subsequently Ayoub Khan, the “Gaza First” independent Birmingham MP, said the fans’ attendance would “normalise genocide” and repeatedly insisted that their past behaviour meant they would pose a threat.
Lo and behold, the police then magically produced “new” intelligence. The Sunday Times reported last weekend:
The force only produced “significant” and “new” “intelligence” about Maccabi’s fanbase after a Birmingham council staff member confided that they had faced questions and been “asked to obtain” information to pre-empt criticism or claims of “anti-Jewish sentiment”.
And the “new intelligence” they produced turned the disorder in Amsterdam on its head and portrayed the Maccabi supporters as “uniquely violent” and military-trained.
This was a jaw-dropping travesty. The violence against the Maccabi fans in Amsterdam had been planned in advance as a “Jew hunt”. The Israelis were chased through the streets, were beaten and one was forced into a canal. The mayor of Amsterdam referred to “antisemitic hit-and-run squads”.
The West Midlands police said this “new intelligence” had come from the Dutch police. But the Dutch said they didn’t recognise the West Midlands account which had misrepresented what had happened in Amsterdam.
And as Nick Timothy has observed, the British officers had presented this to the safety committee as “new intelligence” — even though they had met the Dutch police before the first safety committee meeting where they had said there was “no intelligence”.
“So it’s quite obvious,” said Timothy, “they fitted the intelligence to suit a pre-determined decision”.
The truth of just who needed to be protected against whom became clear when the Birmingham match was finally played. Despite the enforced absence of the Maccabi away-fans, the police were deployed in force to defend the Maccabi team and those fans who did turn up — who were penned into what was described as a “Jew-cage” for their own protection.
Masked thugs set about making the area a Jew-free zone. During the match, the mob outside the stadium screamed “Death death to the IDF!” “Intifada!” and “Resistance is justified!”
Yet as the Sunday Times also reported, the police reversed their initial concerns about threats to the safety of the Israelis and other Jews in Birmingham. Between the first and last safety group meetings, the police downgraded the threat they said the Israeli fans faced from “high” to “medium,” while upgrading the threat to the Muslim community from “low” to “medium” to “high”. The city’s 1,600 Jews, initially said to face a “medium threat”, didn’t appear in the final threat assessment at all.
So to counter possible claims of anti-Jewish sentiment, the police misrepresented a pogrom against Jews as violence by Jews, and portrayed a threat to them from Birmingham Muslims as a threat by them to Birmingham Muslims.
And when the Home Affairs Select Committee asked the West Midlands Chief Constable why the vital information about the danger to the Maccabi fans was kept secret, he ludicrously replied that it was because he had not been asked for it.
By an amazing coincidence, that vile inversion of truth over the Amsterdam Jew-hunt was precisely the line that had been peddled by Ayoub Khan MP. He said:
This is about hooligans. We’ve seen what’s taken place in Amsterdam.
Khan thus falsely accused the Maccabi fans of doing to Amsterdam’s Muslims what the Amsterdam Muslims had done to the Jews — the same false accusation made by the police.
Such a grotesque inversion of the truth can only be produced by malice. The senior officers of the West Midlands force may be craven, cowardly or even imbecilic, but they are unlikely to be driven by such malevolence towards Israel.
But this kind of inversion, of course, characterises the Palestine cause itself, which preposterously accuses Israel of the genocidal intentions that the Palestinian Arabs have towards the Jewish state simply because Israel defends itself against such an onslaught.
It is a signature motif of Islamist thinking to project onto the non-Islamic world the crimes of which it is not only innocent but is the victim, at the hands of the Islamic world. This is because Islam is held to be perfection while everywhere else is the province of the devil. Islamic misdeeds are therefore always caused by others.
So the police inversion of the Amsterdam Jew-hunt sounds like they were reading from a script, or lines to take, that had been provided for them.
But what about their initial concern that elements in the Muslim community wanted to “arm” themselves against the Israelis? Arm themselves with what, exactly? Where would they get these arms from? Doesn’t that continue to be a cause for concern? In any normal, sane universe the first duty of the police should surely be to take action against those intending to commit such acts of violence.
Instead, according to the Telegraph, three of the eight mosques that the police consulted in relation to the Macccabi fans had hosted preachers who promoted antisemitic conspiracy theories or called for the death of Jews. At the same time, the police were talking to Birmingham’s Jewish community which, the police told the Commons committee, had supported the Maccabi ban.
That was totally untrue. As the furious Jews then protested, none of them had supported the ban, forcing the police to apologise for making “misleading” claims.
Now Timothy and the Conservative leader, Kemi Badenoch, are demanding the resignation of the West Midlands Chief Constable. Badenoch, who in conspicuous contrast to the Starmer government has impressively stepped up to the plate over this scandal, said:
West Midlands police capitulated to Islamists and then collaborated with them to cover it up. They presented an inversion of reality and misled a parliamentary committee.
The police “knew extremists were planning to attack Jews for going to a football match,” she said, but their response was to “blame and remove Jewish people instead”.
However, while firing the Chief Constable is essential that will hardly address the appalling vista that’s now opened up in Birmingham and spreads far beyond it.
If the West Midlands police in Britain’s second largest city are so intimidated by Islamic extremists that their senior officers defame Jews rather than keeping them safe, they won’t keep anyone safe.
But the police are a symptom rather than the cause. The police form the thin blue line of a culture. If that culture goes rotten, the police rot with it. And the immediate cause of the rot is multiculturalism.
Far from promoting tolerance and respect for all minorities — which should be axiomatic in any civilised nation — multiculturalism holds that western culture, which is deemed powerful, cannot assert its superiority over any minority culture, which according to this dogma is powerless.
As a result, the west is paralysed in the face of Islamic misdeeds, grovelling, appeasing and crumbling under the chilling effects of Islamist terrorism and intimidation.
That’s why, after every Islamist atrocity committed in the name of Islam, the west declares the atrocity had absolutely nothing to do with Islam. It’s why the overwhelmingly Muslim rape and grooming gangs in Britain, victimising thousands of young white girls, were ignored for so many years and are still being sanitised and downplayed by Labour MPs.
It’s why no teacher looked closely at Sara Sharif, the ten year-old child who was murdered by her father and stepmother, when she started wearing a hijab to cover her bruises. It’s why the Batley schoolteacher remains in hiding more than four years after he received death threats for displaying pictures of Mohamed to illustrate his lesson about freedom of speech. It’s why nothing was done to heed the warnings of the report into the “Trojan Horse” plot to Islamise some Birmingham schools that this was likely to be a far more extensive threat.
And it’s why critiques like this one will become very much harder to publish if the Starmer government outlaws “Islamophobia” as it is planning to do.
The police in Birmingham lost the plot over the Maccabi fans because for decades Britain’s politicians and cultural elites have smashed core British and western identity and principles, genuflecting to Islamists taking advantage of this suicidal cultural demoralisation by stepping into the vacuum.
The police are forfeiting public trust because the country itself is now forfeit. It will take a political leader of rare courage to stop the rot.
