This Lent, we continue to pray for strength — especially the courage to stand firm when obedience feels costly.
At ADF International, we see daily how standing for truth and freedom requires resolve, wisdom, and faith.
This week, Paul Coleman, Executive Director for ADF International, leads us in prayer from Joshua 1:9, reminding us that courage flows from God’s presence.
He also talks about how this courage relates to our client, Päivi Räsänen, who continues to be criminally prosecuted for expressing her Christian beliefs on marriage and sexuality in a 2019 tweet.
Despite two unanimous acquittals, Päivi now faces the seventh year of legal proceedings. The landmark case was heard at the Finnish Supreme Court on 30 October 2025, following the State prosecutor’s appeal.
The prosecution is seeking tens of thousands of euros in fines and is demanding that Päivi’s publications be censored. Päivi has previously said: “If my writings are banned, then [many] sermons and interviews and writings [could] be in danger. If I [am] convicted, it really would start a time of persecution among Christians.” Yet, despite intense scrutiny and looming penalties, Päivi remains steadfast in her faith.
A Supreme Court decision in Päivi’s case is expected in the coming months. We prayerfully await this momentous verdict with Päivi – knowing that with you by our side, we can continue defending the right to free speech across Europe and beyond.
