Sheffield Star.

IT was a breath of fresh air to see our MEP, Godfrey Bloom, questioning the validity of the theory of man-made global warming. Coming from a politician, this is indeed a rare and welcome event. No doubt the greens will be along in a flash to pour scorn on Godfrey. Their standard response is to attack the messenger, not the message. Regrettably for them, there is nothing but bluff to back up their assertions. Ask any climate scientist to show you evidence for a visible man-made signal in global temperature data, above the noise of natural variation, and he will not be able to do so. Because there is no signal, anywhere, in any observed data. Predicted man made global warming (sorry, climate change now, isn't it?) exists only in hopelessly flawed and inadequate computer models. Some scientists refuse to make their work available for scrutiny on the grounds that they have invested tens of years in their research, which they will not have challenged. Scientific research has always advanced by scrutiny of existing research, but not in the field of climate research, it seems. The global warming scam is perpetuated to raise taxes, give scientists a nice little earner and provide the old loony left with a bit of influence, having swapped their red flags for green ones. Blair: Yorks Post today.

From: John Craven, Green Road, Baildon, Bradford.

DOES anyone remember a chap called Tony Blair? Yes, he's the chap who led a sleazy government as it plundered pensions funds, involved us in two wars we didn't need to be in and handed it all over to his henchman as the economy went down the pan. On his retirement, he was appointed as Middle Eastern peace envoy. In the light of what is happening in the Gaza Strip, it would seem that nothing changes. Don't worry, Tony, they can't touch your huge index linked pension...

Death: a topic never to be avoided.

Being a part time Religious Studies teacher, I often find myself involved with rather big issues and certainly, the subject of death is never avoided.
Pupils are sometimes surprised when I say " I have no fear of death but am terrified of dying." The concept is not all that difficult, however.
In other words, 'It is not the destination but the latter stages of the journey which I regard as the problem!'

When you have entered a relationship with God the Son, what could you possibly have to fear? - If you haven't however, fearing death makes perfect sense to me.

Shortchanging the viewing public.

I am totally fed up with the massive amounts of TV programmes which take their viewers for a ride.
Last night it was Total Emergency on ITV which featured the work of the emergency services in Sheffield. Interesting in parts but sections were repeated up to three times. Do they really think that we haven't noticed?
Broker in the adverts and an hour-long programme is barely above 30 minutes.

[On Sky, it is even worse. ]
If as they claim, they had been with these services for 3 months to make 6 programmes - why not include some of the less dramatic stuff from off the cutting room floor instead? It would have been far better than non stop repetitions.

Police investigations are amongst the very worst, second only to archaeological digs with built-in, artificial time constraints!
They will show 11 minutes of programme then adverts. At the end of the break, there is then a complete recap of the first 11 minutes! This will often happen on at least one further occasion!
Just how forgetful do they think we are?

IN FAIRNESS. The second programme in the series was considerably better on this matter!

Masters or servants?

In years gone by when it was far easier to distinguish between Conservative and Labour, you could possibly argue that the former said "Give to anybody who looks as though they might be poor whether affordable to the nation or not."
The latter might have said "Give to those in genuine need as best as we can afford." We have moved far beyond that scenario, today.
The problem is that there is a hidden, socialist agenda to get ever more people onto benefits which is an idea that is certainly shared by the Lib Dems and is not too offensive to the Conservatives of today.
We are speaking of politicians who believe that it is their duty to rule us - and whatever gives them greater control over our lives - so much the better. Common sense is not the issue because there is a different agenda.
Have we forgotten that politicians in a democracy are our servants not our rulers?
Certainly, they have!

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

History repeats itself, in addition: "Those who do not learn the lessons of history are bound to repeat them." [George Santayana.]
It is reported today that Brown is considering 'solving' the current economic disaster by PRINTING MONEY!
I just cannot believe the current stupidity of the Prime Minister.
This is the man 'renowned for fiscal prudence'.
For those who do not grasp the point, printing money will fuel inflation in the same way as caused by the Wilson and Callaghan governments - and think of the chaos that caused.
Love her or loathe her - Thatcher cleared up the mess and the cure HURT.
We are in big trouble!

David & Fiona Fulton.

I featured the plight of the Fultons some time ago who are missionaries and have been imprisoned in Gambia for having criticised the government there in E Mails to friends.
Horror of horrors! The British media have discovered that David Fulton has a bad past which includes having been in prison.
How intelligent of them to major on the man's past rather than on the 'new born' Christian he has become.

I am disgusted.

Yorkshire Post today.

From: Les Arnott, Sheffield.
WHEN I complained about taxpayers having to foot the enormous bill for luxury coffee machines in the EU Commission's headquarters (Yorkshire Post, December 31), I am afraid I may have given the erroneous impression that these machines were actually usable. One of my spies now tells me that "these coffee machines cannot be used since their output is contaminated by heavy metals used in the construction of said machines". Oh dear.

Stalactites take millions of years - I was taught it in school!

"The picture was taken in late 1987 at level 5 workings in the lead-zinc mine at Mt Isa, in north-western Queensland, Australia.
At that time, the mine itself was only about 55 years old, which therefore is the absolute maximum age for all these stalactites.
About 55 metres (180 feet) above this level there is an aquifer (water source) in fairly porous dolomite, a rock that is usually quite dense. Slow, continuous seepage of lime-saturated water into the old level 5 workings was responsible for these formations."

Mullah Anjem Choudary.

"The lawyer, Mullah Anjem Choudary was once the head of radical Muslim group al-Muhajiroun. His supporters recently cheered his every word as he called for Muslims to “rise up” and seize power in Britain."
Er, had he been BNP and made such outrageous statements - what would have happened to him do you suppose?
Please explain why this sinister man has not been arrested and charged.
As readers will well know, I seriously dislike the BNP but just how many times have their speakers advocated the violent overthrow of our stupid but nonetheless, legitimate government?
I think that if they had, there is not a newspaper in the land which would have failed to make it headlines whilst demanding prosecutions.
Why is this different? - Reverse discrimination is every bit as evil as discrimination!

Global vot?

No temperature rises since 1998.
Sustained cold snap.
Snow in Vegas.
I wonder just how many of the 'global warming sheep' will now be starting to doubt; starting to recognise that they have been conned?
Goebbels lives!

A simple question.

A simple question which needs an answer. Why does Hamas choose to place its rocket launching sites in the midst of areas of population?

Clearly, it has challenged Israel's conscience for eight years by this siting and it cynically recognises that there is a propaganda victory when Israel finally has to respond and they can produce the bodies of children to display to the cameras of the world.

What utterly repugnant people!

EU propaganda.

That a company has to advertise its products is one thing, that an organ of government has to do so in order to dupe its citizenry and pretend that the organisation is benevolent, is quite something else.
This year the European Union will spend £2 billion on propagandising its member states with schools, colleges and universities as particular targets of their glossy campaign.

- Er, surely you mean £2 million?

NO!

HG Wells; a standard socialist.

I quote that extremely dangerous - and allegedly cuddly - socialist idealist, Herbert George Wells, author. His words speak for themselves. For many years of course, he was a Fabian Society member:
"The men of the New Republic will not be squeamish either in facing or inflicting death… They will have an ideal that will make killing worthwhile; like Abraham, they will have the faith to kill, and they will have no superstitions about death… They will hold, I anticipate, that a certain portion of the population exists only on sufferance out of pity and patience, and on the understanding that they do not propagate; and I do not foresee any reason to suppose that they will hesitate to kill when that sufferance is abused… All such killings will be done with an opiate… If deterrent punishments are used at all in the code of the future, the deterrent will neither be death, nor mutilation of the body… but good scientifically caused pain."

Gordon Brown is a fully sold-out Fabian, of course.

Oscar.

How those who would actively promote homosexual behaviour have chosen to use Oscar Wilde as an icon; a poor individual who dared to flaunt his sexuality and was persecuted and eventually died a miserable death because of it.
All very interesting of course, but it fails to reveal anything approaching the whole truth.
I am currently reading a worthy history about Jack the Ripper and passing mention is made of the revolting paedophile behaviour of the beloved Oscar in frequenting at least one brothel dedicated to young boys.
This is far from the first time such facts have crossed my path and shown the man to be no more, no less than a fearsome pervert.

Not exactly the person I would choose to be included in any campaigning of mine - however witty he was.

Multiculturalism.

For many years, fair-minded people argued against racism and in favour of a well integrated society.
How could they possibly have been wrong, either pragmatically or from a Christian point of view?

Then along come the politically correct demanding something totally different - multiculturalism!
The folly of this has been clear from the outset. It is creating a bevy of mini societies under a UK umbrella and requires the host nation to change culturally and practically in order to accommodate the belief.
Astonishingly, portions of the population today are so dense that a great many have used the words 'integration' and 'multiculturalism' interchangeably as if talking about the same thing. [!!??]
That customary weapon - accusations of political incorrectness - has been used to silence public dissent.

Multiculturalism promotes division and eventually hatred. One has to wonder whether this was not actually the intention. The promoters of this cult are not stupid - therefore, I am afraid that we have to impute sinister motives to their actions.

The Earl of Arran.

"It's not the people in prison who worry me - it's those who aren't!"

The Earl of Arran.

Now that is nasty!

"May your life be filled with lawyers." Mexican curse.

A reality check.

If you ever need to determine whether socialism has a sound basis or not, you have to turn to fundamental principles.
The Scriptures teach that man is 'a fallen being' in desperate need of redemption. He is incapable of saving himself and a gospel of 'working ones way to God' [ what is often called 'a social gospel' ] is doomed to failure.
Naturally enough, this has to be put into the correct perspective as - 'Faith without works is dead' so Christians are required to remember that if we fail 'to love our neighbour' then we are failing to love God!

Socialism and its marginally nastier brother, marxism, have a somewhat different take on this.
The belief shows man as a non-created being who continuously evolves and is effectively the 'author of his own salvation'.

It is difficult to see how Christian Socialists can marry these two diametrically opposite views.
Clearly, in many churches - particularly in their higher reaches and especially in the Anglican Communion - these two mutually exclusive belief systems are combined and customarily to the detriment of The Christian Faith.

The choice is stark - either a belief in Jesus or a belief in Man.
Man's record is not one I would personally want to rely on.
We are living in a decaying, decadent society. Is it really a coincidence that this decay works in tandem with the displacement of Christian belief?

Voltaire.

It is generally stated that the atheist Voltaire recanted his atheism on his deathbed.
Whether true or not - and I suspect that a great many agnostics and atheists do do this - he is still good for a telling quote or two:
"It is dangerous to be right when the government is wrong".

Che sounds better than Ernest.

Generations of the gullible young were conned into believing that a multi-murdering, piece of stalinist vermin was actually a hero!
Ernesto Guevara was a true marxist - in other words - he butchered people in large numbers if they did not share his political beliefs.
Yet, the tee shirts and hats are still widely sold more than 40 years after his well merited death!
