It's how to achieve these aims that we disagree about - and indeed between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats there is a lot less disagreement than there used to be."

So all that I have written about the giant, centre left, 'cosy consensus' is confirmed right out of the mouth of the man himself!

'Progressive' is of course one of the 'code words' used for 'leftwing' - it hasn't actually meant progressive in many a year! It's like 'social justice' (see earlier posting) which means nothing of the sort!

Targets damage standards.

'A report by Teach First has highlighted the damage being done to able pupils by school targets. In essence it says that schools focus on borderline C/D pupils and ignore the needs of the A/A* pupil.
Liz Thonemann the author said “In terms of how it impacts on a school’s reputation, it makes more sense to get kids up to a C than get those at B up to an A*.'

In the comprehensives where classes are larger - this general problem is even more exaggerated.

Ultra soft on crime: ultra soft on the causes of crime!

'Labour's £100 million drive to reduce youth crime and yobbery has made things worse rather than better for the victims, a Government survey has found.It said that for more than a quarter of people living in districts blighted by anti-social behaviour, crime and disruption believe it has actually deepened and spread.
Nearly half say that nothing has changed since the introduction of the ambitious Youth Crime Action Plan two years ago. Fewer than one in five, the report found, believe that thuggery, vandalism and thievery have gone down.These are fashionable with academics and social workers but their value is unproven and they cost £50,000 for every family that behaves better after long hours of official help.The survey carried out among 2,750 people living in the 69 target areas said that 48 per cent said their neighbourhood was no different over the past year. More than a quarter, 27 per cent, said crime and anti-social behaviour had gone up.Only 19 per cent said it had gone down, and six per cent did not know.'

Physics is anti-atheist NOT anti-God!

'A purely physical explanation (i.e. materialism, or an atheistic belief that says that there is no such thing as a metaphysical world) relies on as-of-yet undiscovered principles of physics.
It requires faith, if you will, that someday we'll discover a way for matter and energy to come from nothing.
Another problem faced by materialistic explanations is entropy. Entropy says that the universe is cooling down, that energy is being converted from usable forms to unusable forms, and that this process is irreversible. Processes with entropy happen, by definition, over a finite period of time. An infinitely old universe with entropy would now be cold and dead. Once again, the universe can't be infinitely old. It had to have a cause.
So science as we know it now cannot possibly explain this. The only logical explanation is a cause outside of space and time - which of course is consistent with the definition of God that theists have held for thousands of years.
Science does not refute this; in fact a truly scientific assessment of the facts is that all purely materialistic answers to the origins question blatantly violate the laws of physics.'

Where did God come from?

Q: If information has to come from a Mind (God), then where did God come from? Who made God?

A: Asking "Where did God come from" is a lot like reading a John Grisham novel and saying "This book has lawyers and judges and secretaries, but what page is John Grisham on?"

The answer of course, is that John Grisham is not in the novel at all. He lives outside of the novel. He wrote it. He created the time line, the story and the characters. The novel is a book with a finite number of pages, a beginning and an end. But John Grisham lives a life that extends far beyond that book.

Were you aware that our government had sold out Tibet to the Chinese? - No, me neither. So a warm thanks to Peter Hitchens for informing us that this came about when the Brown governmental fiasco had needed some Chinese monetary support in the depths of the Brown-created recession.
The price for this economic kindness by the Chinese was revealed several weeks after the event when Miliband quietly announced that AFTER 60 YEARS OF INTEGRITY, we have finally abandoned a nation which was the victim of the most naked sino-imperialism.

Why do they get so angry?

A friend has pointed out to me something about the bulk of lefties which I suppose I had always known but never quite managed to put into a clear, single thought.

Why do so many get so ruddy angry when you present an argument which contradicts their thinking? His experience certainly mirrored my own.

There are exceptions, of course, but as a principle it seems that their thinking may not be challenged; debate is out of the question. This cuts across so many of the areas which I write about on here and certainly includes the dyed-in-the-wool evolutionist, atheists and 'warmists'.

I for one, am always prepared to debate in order to get my point across. I know that I cannot win arguments by shouting, waving my hands around, insulting and going purple in the face - why should they?

I may possibly understand if a hindu for example, does not want to debate the merits or otherwise of a deeply held belief system. It may seem kind of blasphemous to do so, I suppose.

Surely this cannot apply in the political field - can it? Are leftwing ideals in fact a kind of sublimated religious belief? - Surely they cannot be the 'very core of being' - can they?

This would explain a great deal. When I see so much absence of logic, so much downright stupidity and so many appalling outcomes defended as if Holy Writ - there has to be some explanation.

Why higher education?

We are constantly told of the needs for 'a highly educated workforce'. Well - why, precisely?

A friend pointed out yesterday how in manufacturing so many jobs of degree standard requirements have simply disappeared but there is a need for forklift truck drivers!

To this you can add basic data entry jobs.

In 1970 when I went to university, only 5% of the population did so and were the crème de la crème. In those heady days, the study of a purely academic subject was a guarantee of future employment. Today, the dilution in standards means that only academia beckons and then only for the very best.

With an absurd 43% now going to university - where are the jobs? It means that there is a downward pressure so that degrees are now required for jobs which once required 'O' levels.

This leads to frustration, debt and destroyed ambitions.

As a Careers Master, my advice is no longer what it was 20 years ago. I now say "If you love your subject and will feel unfulfilled without it; if you must have a degree for a specific profession - then fine. In all other circumstances - do NOT go to university 'to improve prospects." It doesn't work and particularly if you have been silly enough to have chosen a Mickey Mouse degree course which lacks any currency at all in the market place.

I know a PHYSICS graduate who was totally unable to get work so what chance do you have with Media Studies?

There is always teaching of course, but I only recommend that to personal enemies!

My general advice would be to take 'A' Levels or equivalent and look for work at that point. In so many areas you will outdo the graduate.

AND, all of this against a background of falling IQ levels.

An answer to prayer.

I have several times featured the 'banana republic' shenanigans of the Gambian government's persecution of two British missionaries, the Fultons.

Mr Fulton continues to serve his three years of hard labour but - great news and an answer to much prayer from supporters - Fiona Fulton has been released early.
