A Christian Conundrum?

In The Parable of The Tenants, Jesus makes it clear that the owner of the vineyard 'goes away' and leaves the tenants to get on with their lives and living.
The owner certainly represents God in the principal meaning of the story - so what can we make of this when we probe more deeply into the further layers contained within?
Certainly, God does not intrude in our daily lives and even in the Scriptures, incidents such as what happened to Saul of Tarsus on the Damascus Road are far from the norm.
God does come into our daily lives through his Holy Spirit but only in direct proportion to the degree of welcome He receives.
This is not a problem in understanding in any way but the difficulty arises when we speak of God's Plan for our lives and juxtapose these two thoughts together.
Perhaps God's Ideal for us might be somewhat better phraseology as we are not automatons and hardline calvinism around the word 'elect' is actually quite unhelpful.
