The NHS is able to reclaim the cost of treating an
EU citizen from their home country’s government but British staff are struggling
to keep track of the foreign nationals who use our health service because of the
administration required. Our Government pays £800 million every year to other EU
governments to pay for British citizens’ healthcare abroad but only claims
£29million back from them to cover EU citizens’ treatment in this
country.This huge imbalance
shows the scale of the problem and how desperately it needs fixing. Express.
